I am looking to build a few engines from the past. Like the Merlin and radial engines like the Wasp. Is there a brand that makes a great model with great detail?
If you’re interested in WW1 radials take a look at this from Model Expo. I has 3 engines in metal, brass and wood. I have it but haven’t built any yet so I don’t know how well things go together but it sure looks nice in the box:

You are in luck with the Wasp. Many years ago, Williams brs did a wonderful wasp in 1:8, but the company went dormant. The company was bought out and is now active again, though few dealers handle them. I do not know of a Merlin larger than 1:32, but AMT did an Allison in 1:24 for one of their parts kits which are usually available on eBay.
Currently there ia an Atlantis kit available in 1:12 of a Wright Cyclone. Built it and it is a nice kit.
I have this one in the stash - looks like a very nice kit

Ah Yes!
The immutable Allison! If you want one and aren’t sure of the seller on the bay then do this. When you see the Car Kit, “Allison in Wonderland” Grab it. It still needs a little, but, besides the hard to locate parts pack it’s the only alternative out there in 1/25.
I had a real gift dropped in my lap yesterday.A friend dropped over said"You got a use for this stuff" a box loaded with plastic kit parts. Some of it still on sprues! Hidden in the mess-Not one but TWO 1/24 Merlin Engines out of the old Airfix offering. Now i can build my "Mossie"properly!
