I just purchased a 1/32 Roden Sopwith Tripalne. It has the windscreen printed on a piece of clear acetate. Since I will purchase other WW1 kits, I have the following four part question:

What is the best way to:

  1. remove the windscreen from the acetate sheet;

  2. paint the windscreen frame;

  3. attach it to the fuselage as it has such a narrow attachment area; and,

  4. curve the windscreen (in other kits) if necessary.

To answer your questions in order.

  1. I use a small pair of curved sissors.

  2. I run a sharpie marker along the edge. At that scale the edge is not very pronounced. Sometimes at 1/32 you’ll find a PE part for the frame. In that case paint the frame then attach the acetate with clear parts cement

  3. I use clear parts cement and a piece of stretched sprue as an applicator.

  4. I curve the acetate gently between my fingers. The body temp and a little patience is enough to gently curve the windshield to fit.

I build mostly in 1/48 but these techniques worked just fine on the Encore 1/32 Albatros DIII and SE-5a I built for the Nuremburg Toy Fair. I hope these ideas help
