I need some thoughts on painting tank treads. The tanks are for Games Workshop’s Leman Russ tanks, which are a cross between ww1 and ww2 tanks. The tank treads are modeled like a ww1 tank, so no road wheels are shown.
Would these treads be clustered with mud? What would the best way to model mud spatter be on the sides?
here’s a link to what the tanks look likehttp://www.forgeworld.co.uk/edelweiss.htm
They wouldnt carry too much mud up to the top. If you look closely theres nothing really to hold th mud on. A little bit may have in certain locations but not alot. If it is in Muddy area the lowre halve ove the tank should be pretty muddy, these tanks were heavy and because they went so slow they had more time to sink into the mud.
Keifer-those look really cool! I agree with Rebel that mud should be held to a minimum. But also remember that you want these to look good-don’t be a slave to realism. The link you posted shows a nicely weathered but attractive tank. Have fun!
