WW1 German bipes/tripes

Here’s some photos of 3 1/72 scale German planes:
Albatross, Fokker Dr.1and Roland.

Regards, Dan[^]

Nice looking builds, especially like the laminated wooden prop effect. I’ve never built a 1/72 WWI, too small for my clumsy thumbs, but wish I could. Whos’ kits are these? Iv’e seen some kits from Roden ( X- Toko ) & Eduard that were very tempting.

Thanks , Rick.

The top 2 are from Revell, and the Roland is from an obscure maker that I can’t remember. I have never built a Roden kit but would like to in the near future; one of those would being the Gotha bomber…

Regards, Dan

Nice looking kites there ! I really like the Roland. Is that the one that had side windows with curtains? Good job(s) !

You are right, Pix!

The Roland had side windows with curtains…lol

Regards, Dan

I think Eduard made a 1/48 Roland and included decals for the window curtains.

That would be one nice build…I’ve only heard good things abut Eduard kits.

Dan

very well built. well done.

Nice models, Dan, nice models. The Albatross in particular caught my eye. If you look at real WWI planes, you’ll see that the fabric covered parts of the airframe is satin-looking, due to the dope that was applied to it to prevent waterlogging in particular. A light coat of Future would replicate that ‘look’ very well. The metal bits were not coated.

Beautiful work Dan. I’m working on a Eduard Fokker E.III and it’s seriously small. Great kit though.

Great stuff, Dan! I especially like the streaky camo you gave to the Dr.1. How’d you do it?

Regards,

Thanks again everybody!
Domi…I will remember that tip with the future.
Drew, while the tan basecoat was still wet, I dragged olive green diagonally across the wings to simulate the camo pattern.

Dan

How did you get the paint to stay wet for so long. Paint always seems to dry before it hits the model.

I worked very fast…plus in this scale, the wings are very small.
I forgot to add that these planes weren’t airbrushed.

I figured I’d throw in a British Bipe…the DH-9:

Nice Airco too! Not as eye-catching as the colorful German planes, but certainly a more difficult build! More!

Dan,

Once again, great stuff! I love the look of your props, and thanks for the tip on making the streaky camo.

Are you going to attempt rigging?

Regards,

Nice planes, Dan-those german WWI paint schemes are a blast (you can build 3 versions without gettin’ bored). Roden, Mac and Eduard are good kits. I have a Roden Gotha kit on deck-scares the heck out of me esp with Roden brittle decals. I’d work my way up. Try the Fokker EIII or Flying Razor. Keep up the good work.

Thanks again, Domi, Drew and Dan…

I am a bit shy on doing rigging…if you guys have a good way of doing it…I’m all ears (or eyes).
I’ve heard of stretched sprue, fine fishing line, and guitar strings…but I dunno yet.

The flying razor sounds cool, I think I saw one in Squardon Mail order…hmmmmm.

Oops…found another! A Spad…[;)]

Regards, Dan

Squadron is a very good source although I order online-they’re reasonable and reliable.

Put the rigging off until later-much later!
