Looking for some advice. Applied some older MRC decals and they went on well. After letting them dry I sealed them with Krylon satin clear finish to seal them as I have done in the past with other decals. However for some reason these decals wrinkled and bubbled a bit and some melting of the decal occurred. Luckily this was on a scrap piece. Anyways was the Krylon to strong and if so any ideas on what to use to seal them? Ideally I would like a satin finish, if not do you think dullcote would work?
Krylon is very strong and not quite good for the modeling world.But;Thats my opinion.Try the Testors or Alclad brands.Backyard Krylon paints are for regular household applications.
I have never had Krylon wrinkle decals. The most common cause of wrinkled decals for me has been the use of a decal solvent, like Solvaset, and then trying to pat down decal while the solvent is working. I usually just apply solvent and let nature take its course.
However, you did not mention anything about solvents or trying to pat down the decals, so I find this unusual.
Thanks for your reply Don. No I didn’t use any solvents, just applied decal over glossy surface, let dry, and applied the Krylon. Wonder if the Krylon was applied on to thick?
I have put on pretty thick Krylon coats without wrinkling decals. I sometimes make nameplates by making a decal to fit a plate of brass or aluminum, with lettering on decal. I use Krylon on those 'cause it is cheaper than glosscoat.
