Hi All,
Does anyone know if someone makes aftermarket decals for Ar196s? I built the MPM kit...1:48...and the decals were junk. I looked around on the internet but didnt come across any. Thanks in advance!

Cant believe I stumped you guys on this one! Maybe there isnt an aftermarket set…guess I`ll have to get something close enough so I can finally finish this one off.
I dont know about any, but I can tell you there are programs/materials out there for you to make your own as well as people that print custom decals for kits that you could check out.

Can you tell me how to get ahold of one of these programs? Will they work with an ink-jet printer? The only custom decal name that comes to mind is Mike Grant but not sure if he does an Ar 196, have to check the site. I did check the usual places and was surprised not to find them especially since there`s a couple of new releases of this kit. Thanks again…Len
I know you can use any old art program, even MS paint to make the decals then print them out on decal paper.
If it has a white background buy the white and trim, most printers cant print white.
As for the places that sell them, the only one I can recall is Samual Decal, but there for mecha kits.
If you use an ink-jet, you’ll need to use a decal bonder… Testor’s Decal Bonder is what I use (as well as MS Paint) for the decals I make. When you spray the bonder onto the decals paper, make sure none gets on the back, and also keep in mind the the decals will have to cut VERY close to their edges, since the bonder makes the entire sheet one big decal…
Well, Italeri just re-released the 196 in your scale, and I think Revell is about to. The Italeri one comes with a number of options, including I think at least three German ones. While it’s not appropriate to ask here, on other forums you could certainly pose a trade or ask for a set of someone else’s leftovers.
Maybe some one will PM you with an offer. Making decals isn’t hard, but making the art is.

Ive used craft gloss sealers to rescue some "if-y" decals in the past...even on this particular sheet Im discussing…some worked great, some, the backing refused to release unless left in water for a long time then the decal was too delicate to pick out of the water. Thats what happened to my 196 sheet.
I guess my problem is going to be finding the art to print out. I have decal sheets…white and clear. Maybe someone who has this kit could scan their sheet and e-mail it to me. If it gets too nutty trying to do this, I`ll do what I said earlier, get a generic sheet with German crosses and for tail numbers and other markings I could dig around in my spare decals…got enough number decals to tag an entire airforce!

There are no specific sheets for the Ar 196. There are, however, tons of sheets with standard German insignia and squadron codes, so finding some to put on your aircraft shouldn’t be that difficult.

Im not the most computer saavy guy...Im still amazed that I can post my pictures here…lol. My Wife, on the other hand, can do anything on a computer. I guess Ill have to enlist her services...hope the price isnt too high!
Now, all I need is a real nice person to scan their 196 decal sheet and e-mail it to me and I`d be all set!

If you have one nearby, Hobby Lobby carries white and clear Testor’s decal film, as well as the decal bonder… Then make sure t’ take a 40% coupon with ya…
You don’t need to be a computer god for MS paint… It’s a fun little program to play with…
Just open it up and play with it a while, and you’ll get the idea…
Yep, you`re exactly right…just stated that in a post. I probably have enough spares for unit markings,etc. Some markings can be painted too. Thanks for the input Bronto!
No hobby Lobbys in "Jersey" but I think I got my dcal film at AC Moore or Michaels. Never buy anything at either one lest I have my 50% off weekly coupon,LOL. Just got an X-15…1:72…at AC Moore yesterday for 9 bucks.

Sorry Len. I guess I didn’t talk in the clear. Your question is fine of course, but I put words in your mouth, and apologize for that, to the effect that you could make a deal with someone for leftover decals from the Italeri kit. Frankly, Frank; I was just trying to set you up to get an email/ “conversation” from summun offering you same.
Dont sweat it dude! I appreciate the set-up...sometimes Im t the brightest bulb in the lamp. I would be set if someone could scan their sheet and e-mail it to me…maybe I`ll have to change the heading one more time…
