Worst kit ever

I know I’m probably opening a massive can of worms here but I was wondering about what was the worst kit you ever bought. I know all of us have “saved” a few really bad kits with several pounds of putty and a truckload of sandpaper and was curious about your stories. Mine was more than likely the Revell F-18 Blue Angels kit. Terrible fit, parts broken on the sprue, flash everywhere, one wing was even smaller than the other. I had to put it aside many times for fear of throwing it on the ground and stomping it into oblivion.

I’m not sure what the worst kit that ever crossed my path was, but I’m sure Lindberg put it out! [xx(]

I was sorely disappointed with an MPC B-29 in 1/72 scale many years ago. Broken and missing parts, poor instructions, a real mess. Nothing suitable even for the spares box.

Esci’s Demag. Terrible fitting. I got so frustrated that I ended up tossing it into the garbage. Haven’t done it before or since.

probably anything and everything made by monogram in the mid to late 70s

I don’t recall the manufacturer, but the kit was a 1/48 Twin Mustang, a complete shocker…

It was a Modelcraft, I have the same nightmare partially built in my closet and it will probably stay there.

Add a more recent kit for me, a F.M model from France of the “luft 46” BV212P. Tons of flash, miss-shaped parts, white metal blobs, incomplete injection molded parts, poor resin casting and they glued the cockpit assembly together poorly. Not a good start back into scale modeling.

Oh well, lesson learned; bring on the Tamiya and Hasegawa kits!

Mach 2 Do.26 1/72 flying boat - what a pig!

Modelgrampa, you should check out AM Tech BV-212, much better kit to work with.

one word…Heller

The worst? The monogram F-14. The absolute most awful kit I ever paid money for. Bad Parts[:(!]Bad Fit[:(!] Bad Everything! It would have taken more filler than I could afford to put it right!![V]

I will never buy one of their kits again[}:)] Ever.[xx(]

The absolute worst was a Lindberg something or other-so bad I put it out of my memory [xx(][:(][:(!]

AMTs XB-70

I’m suprised no one has mentioned Starfix. I think they will only issue reboxes of the industries worst kits! Model Grandpa, I hate to hear that about the F.M. kit as I have wanted to try one. I still can’t believe anyone is putting Monogram on the list.

It is a tossup for me, between an Italeri F-22 raptor whose seams required a whole brick of milliput or the Italeri USS gettysburg whose hull was so warped that I thought I was building something by Salvador Dali. Not to say that all Italeri kits are bad, quite the contrary, the best vehicle was an Italeri RSO tractor in 1:35. By the way, Anyone know where I can find another one?

I am surprised that so many kits mentioned were older kits that were “state of the art” kits at one time . Monogram and Heller were the best of their period and were the standards of Plastic modeling. My choise for a “Turkey” kit is the 1/72 P-51B that Hasagawa completely ruined themselves with. This was a great model Company that showed the first signs that even the reliable Japanese products can bomb out. I actually shelled out good coin for a model new model that was years behind the old Monogram kit that was released 25 years earlier.
