As I mentioned over in the Introductions forum I’m just getting back into the hobby after a couple of decades off, and I’m still trying to find out what’s out there these days as far as kits go. I’ve got pretty broad interests as far as subjects and historical periods. I was wondering what’s available as far as World War I fighter plane kits. Obviously there’s a lot of World War II and later stuff available, but I’ve seen very few WWI kits so far. Are there any manufacturers that make a good line of WWI planes?
Eduard and Roden are probably the top 2 manufacturers of WWI aircraft. Eduard offers kits in many different skill-levels, and between the two of them you can find releases in 1/72, 1/48, and 1/32 scale.
Thanks. I’ll probably check those two out.
I like the Revell German 1/72 scale Fokker D VII (kit no. 04177) as a relatively easy introduction into WW I biplanes - the fit is good, it’s a new kit so the moldings are crisp, and best of all, virtually no rigging to worry about! I got one on sale at the local hobby shop for $4.95.
But, confession time, I did not paint the lozenge camouflage on the undersides …
Roden make about a zillion different WWl kits…they’re probably a little harder to build than the normal run of the mill kits…more challenging in the fit and detail department…but they have a pretty amazing range of kits available.
Eduard have a smaller range of WWl kits…but they’re the bees knees. For example, have a look at their Fokker D.Vll…simply incredible…one of the best kits i’ve EVER seen…as close as a perfect kit as you’d ever want to see…
Yes, there’s a plethora of WWll kits about, but WWl is pretty well represented.
