Hi, I am relatively new to fine scale modeling. I am having a hard time finding out colors for my 1/72 scale US airborne troops (WWll). This looks like the place to go. Someone said Olive drab but that looks a little too dark. Does anyone know what colors work best? What about those jump boots? What color are those?
This topic comes up often here. This is an earlier post with some answers. http://www.finescale.com/fsm/community/forum/topic.asp?page=-1&TOPIC_ID=16103&REPLY_ID=142145#142145
You can also do an Advanced Search (upper right corner of page) with WWII Airborne as the subject and set the date range to about a year, and you get lots of hits.
If it would help at all, I posted a picture of an airborne trooper in 120 mm scale on this forum about a month ago. The thread was entitled “101st Airborne trooper” and is on about page 3 or 4 of this forum. I am very confidant that the colours of the uniform, which appear to be almost tan, are correct for the period of the Normandy landings.
There are a few military re-enactor sites that feature American airborne uniforms and these sites provide a ready reference for any modeler needing to get the colours just right. Try this one;
I was just there and they feature a couple of examples of U.S. airborne packages for sale to historical re-enactors, and you’ve got to know that these guys go to great lengths to get things like colour correct. Good luck.
