Workbench Ideas?

Greetings All,

I’ve got a great problem and I would like your input. After years of dragging my model stuff to the table to work, I now have an area (though small) to work in! [:D]

I’ve included the pics in this message and here are the measurements on the space I have to work with: 18 1/8"W X 36 3/8"L X 52 3/4"H (told you it was small). For our metric minded friends the measurements are 46cm X 92cm X 134cm. This is basically and old “Shrunk” or "armoire "…a free-standing closet.

What I want from ya’ll is input on how to maximize/design/arrange this space. I always find myself saying “I wish I’d have done/added/changed that” and I don’t want this to happen here.

I plan to use this space for construction and some storeage as well…obviously no painting. I’d really appreciate any ideas you might have and I’ll say “thanks” in advance

David if the armoire is some thing that you are not saving as an antique,I would convert it into a hobby desk.1st you would have to gut it and put some shelfving and small cubby holes in it.Come out with selfiving to about 1-1/2 inches to the doors, then get a piece of plywood that is measured to the inside deminsions and hinge it so it will fold down.Make some legs for the end and you will have a neat hobby table that will save you some space.Oh yeah make sure that the table comes up to desk level.Digger

HEY,
You should also get one of those lamps that clamps(hey that rhymes lol) to your desk. Like digger said, lots of shelving helps. You could also hang like a spice rack on the back so that you have a spot for you paints, or you could mount it on the inside of the door.

Thanks for the great ideas, guys. I’ve even toyed with the idea of putting peg-board on one or both inside walls.

Keep 'em coming…the more suggestions the better the project.

I don’t know what happened to my pics…they were there when I posted and checked.

you could also get those tupawear plactic pull out drawer tower to store all the suplies and you could roll it around the house (say your painting in the garage you just roll it out there) you could also use peg board and make removable shelfs and you can pop it down when you need it then pop it back up when you don’t.

HEY,
I also have one of those plastic tool boxes that comes apart in two layers, and has like a lazy susan kinda thing in it and stuff. It has wheels, and before i had a workbench, i used that for all my stuff. Now it is part of my workbench, i use it to place stuff on when the parts are drying.

You can also get one of those droar cabients at wal-mart.The ones with small and big drawers and hane it on the wall.I use the small drawers for glue, blades and parts.the big one for paints, that way you can seperate them and label them.Like one or two drawers for aircrift paints and the other for armor ect…Also I bought one of those cumputer desk from wal-mart with the sliding key top. That has turned out to be handy with putting my instruction on or tools that I need at hand.So there are afew more ideals to mill over.Digger
