LOL…the funny part is, I have been collecting books (even have the very first edition WH40K Rogue Trader in pristine condition plus an 40k chapter approved book of the astronomicon [hast the wolftime campaign]), figures, the games, etc but not once have I played. I love the background though, kind of an ancient Egyptian King is God meets medievil Europe Gothic type, religion gone wild. I love the books. I used to play spacehulk very heavily though, loved it for its simplicity and the updates like using regular pa space marines with their heavily armored terminator counterpart. Not sure why they havent gotten back around to updates or exspansions for it. My son and I will sit down for a game every now and again, but its hard to find anyone else who still plays. I was thinking recently about starting to collect Dark Eldar, love the whole sinister background. Wife has directed no more until I paint what I already have…sigh
I’m really surprised, wolf. You live hoe close to Glen Burnie? Go take a little trip to their US Headquarters and take the tour. How often do we get to see the models being designed? Finding a game around there should be no problem at all. Looks like the HobbytownUSA where you live does intro gaming. You’re sure to find somebody there who plays, or in Hanover at the GW store, about 40 miles from you.
As for Space Hulk, it just never got really popular in the states. It had a brief moment in the UK, but never caught on here. If you like the Hulk game, try Blood Bowl. And I agree, the Dark Eldar are pretty cool, but wusses at range. Too many open top vehicles, and NO TANKS!!

Im rally loving this forum. I just started with the space wolf army after i bought i hughe box with alot of stuff. I haev some reaper figures and some lord of the rings, thats how i got into the figure modeling. I would like to see some more pictures from wolfp and daemono69. If posible even ask some questions to improve my figures. I havent done any sirius conversions jet but what wolfp did with taht figure was amazing. i want some of my wolf captains to look like that, battle like. That is my goal make my models look like they are in battle, dirty and weathered. I want to impress a couple of people at the local gw.
heh…wh40k games I can find with no problems. I am on pretty good terms with all the guys over there (should be considering how much cash I spend) I just never took the time to try it out. I talk to the gw rep all the time about painting techniques etc and the game itself, been invited to sit down and play, but havent just due to time. So many hobbies now, I would have to give something up. Maybe someday.
Now to you Neon, that figure is about two to three times the size of what you are working with currently. I would say goof around with em some and dont worry too much about what they are looking like off the bat. My blood angels have probably 3 or 4 different shades or red throughout the group, and that is from me screwing around with mixing different shades of red. I usually work in groups of 5 to 10 just to keep some uniformity, but not really concerned with it across the board. Work on the basics of getting a good even base coat first then move on to more advanced techniques (shading, highlighting, etc). you will soon want to apply a wash to the figures then highlight through drybrushing, at that scale your normal troops will look good. As you continue to gain confidence you can try other techniques such as layering, feathering, and blending. Some good references are the “eavy metal painting guide” and the “eavy metal warhammer 40,000 painting guide” from games workshop. Not sure they carry these under the same name but am sure GW still offers them in some form and if its like most of the book products from GW it will probably run you about 15 - 20 bucks each. They are acrylic centric and dont talk to artists oils at all. Other references I use are fsm’s guide to painting military figures (my dads got it up stairs right now, may not be the exact title) and shep paines "How to paint military miniatures. Also, take a trip down to the gw or modeling club and talk to ppl about painting and if you get a chance watch them do it. Most folks like having someone interested in their techniques and are usually more than willing to share. Most of all, enjoy yourself, I do it mostly to relax and prove my eyesight is still just as good as when I was 18…hehe.

Demono did you try uploading to Ron’s gallery…may work that way, and if you dont wanna do that, just post a link to the page. Neon, alot of the stuff out of print you can find on ebay, although you may have to pay through the nose. Also, try Amazon, they have both new and used for sale.

I like this forum, it turned out to be a miniature modeling talk all around. Since miniatures is the subject, have you used future to dilute the citadel inks. It works great as a midium. I love it

Wolfp, how did you create that nice efect in the chestplate emblem. I want to do something similar but in metallict, i know it can be done.
the chest plate is layered and feathered, wanna say bout 7 shades from the deepest brown to the highest highlight. I thin a little more when adding layers so my mix in acrylics may be 1:1 for base then 1:2 or 1:3 for successive layers. Demono, Ron changed his logon and pw to his sight: logon - newfsm; pw - models. See if that works, I will check to see if you through them in there.

thanks for the compliments…I entered it into the contest, heh, didnt win. I did get a medal for tree beard which I took with me just for giggles. Didnt think it would be recognized, much less get a medal. I will throw it up and let you guys take a gander.
About time we wrote something again. Well wolfp, do you have any pics of tree beard? I like to see other models it always pumps me up and helps me go to the next level in modeling. Im almost done with my runepriest and ulrick the slayer, hope i can show you the pics. Daemono im still hoping to see your pics. Do you guys know what can remove the gw paints without damaging the platic models?

I’m working on some pics to put up, just waiting on the camera. As for removing paint, try a bit of Simple Green. It has worked very well for me in the past, including on plastic.
DAemono where can you get some of that, i dont have a clue. Im also waiting for the camera to put up some pictures.
