Word of advice for ebay addicts...

So I am at work drooling over some of the wonderful items up for auction on ebay and watching an Academy F-111E and Aztec metal Airbrush set #A7778 that I just couldnt live without. So being at work and far from the ever pying eyes of my wife I place my bids thinking Im safe at work and she’ll never know… I should know better by now. Before I came to work I was watching these same items on my home computer. I left the internet connected when I left and when I placed my bids at work the bid conformation emails pops up on my yahoo messenger… my wife hears this, looks at the subject title and within two minutes of placing my bids she was on the phone warning me that Im gonna put us in the poor house with my Ebay purchases  OOPS!!!
So in the future fellas, if your gonna try and be sneeky and purchase online items at work free from prying eyes… make sure the instant messanger is turned off before you leave the house.

LOL that’s why we have seperate Laptops!!! HeHeHe[:D][:P][;)]

In fact it’s the one and only fault of the messenger. You should sue Yahoo for this.

lol busted

And a good thing cause you really don’t want an Aztec airbrush.

That’s right, you don’t. Also, YOUR own fault. My wife has NO IDEA how much I spend on e-bay (and I AIN’T telling).

whats wrong with the AZTEK brush? Ive only ever used Testors Model Master 8826 and when I get it working right Ive had great results only some headaches that Ive chalked up to being inexperienced with Airbrushing… Using mineral spirits on paints that are thined with water? was one of my favorites… Its a little late on buying the AZTEK I placed my bid minutes before the auction was over. For some one who doesnt know much about modeling and airbrushing, What would you suggest for some one like me?

Badger, Sotar, Paasch - Aztec can be a real pain but there are those that like them. Hopefully it will work out for you.

It’s not the ordering that gets you caught…it’s the delivery!

People always say “Don’t blame the messenger” but in this instance I’d say you’re justified.

Al.

Swanny,
So you don’t recommend Badger, Sotar, Pasche or Aztek airbrushes??? Just trying to understand as a someone just starting out working with airbrushes.

Which do you recommend?

I’ve got an Aztek, then got a Paasche VL and haven’t used the Aztek since. The Aztek worked OK as a “trainer”. But for serious work you can’t beat a good metal needle and tip, IMHO.

I use Badger airbrushes and have been a big fan of them for the last 14 years. I have a 150 and a 360 and have found them to be extremely durable, very responsive and very quick on cleaning and color changes. It takes me about 30 seconds to change colors in the 360 and less than 3 minutes to completely break it down for thorough cleaning. The 150 takes a little longer but is still very good. They behave well with acrylics, enamels and lacquers. In all these years I have never had to send one out for service, in fact, the only parts I ever needed were and “O” ring and a needle for the 150 and both of those were a result of my own clumsiness. The Paasch and Sotar brushes use very similar technology but are a little more complex on the breakdown. I have compared them and found the performance to be very similar. My very first airbrush was an Aztec and it was such a POS that it nearly caused me to give up on painting models completely. That was many years ago and it is possible that they have improved but I still hear many horror stories from modelers even now.

Regarding EBay, I got some spam at work last week that was interesting. They were selling CD’s with email addresses of buyers and sellers from EBay. How did they get them? Is it a complete list? Did they get them legally? Is this complete BS? The answer to all the above is the same; I have no idea. The point is, if you don’t want yet more spam watch how you post your email address on EBay.

I purchased an Iwata HP-C airbrush based on advice from a friend, but haven’t even had a chance to use it yet. Was it good advice??? I’m a newby to this so hopefully it won’t be too complicated of an airbrush for this beginner. I also got an MD Power Jet compressor based on Bear Air’s recommendation.

Hehe guess Im really lucky in the fact that my wife lets me buy all the models I want with in reason of course. The way she sees it the more I build models the less Ill bug her for entertainment.

Iwata is good also.

OR… on the other hand, maybe there’s really no need to be sneaky. Once I realized just how often my wife brought home shoes, clothing items, candles, etc., it became pretty apparent that my casual spending would NEVER catch up to hers!

Additionally, since we both work, we have an agreement that after the household “nut” is covered, neither may be critical about the way the other decides to spend their “play” money. Life’s too short.

dont let her rule your life

What you need to do is change your ebay settings so it doesn’t send you bid comfirmations and daily updates. Also have your items shipped to your work address. Then wait till she’s gone and smuggle them in. LOLO She is wonder how my pile of unbuilt models is getting so high.
