Took a silver for my Red Headed Stranger and got the new Ontos kit. But better than hat was hanging out with a bunch of friends and meeting some of this crew for the first time.
As I suspected, I had a great time. It was super to see everyone, and to meet a few new guys.
Dupes headed out from my house about 45 minutes ago for his 5 hour drive home (he’ll get home about 2:00 am!!)
I pulled down three Intermediate Bronzes. I have to admit to being a little disappointed - I really thought one of my builds would earn a Silver (1/2 point shy…). The other two got what I figured they’d get. Ah well, just extra motivation to up my game before ValleyCon!!!
All in all, it was a BLAST. Had a great time and really enjoyed the two day format.
Awesome time! Got to chat with some great people picked up some fruils for my Chaffee and even won a few things in the raffle. A big thank you and a pat on the back to the AMPS staff. Great show guys!
A big highlight for me was getting the Rolls Royce award for my siG 33[:D]
Snapped a few pics and I’ll post 'em tomorrow but for now [|-)]
Way to go guys!!! Let me be the first with the congrats out to all!!! Been thinking about you guys while stuck here WORKING. [cnsod]
Looking forward to a full AAR complete with incriminating details and photos! [^o)]
Yep the show was great, and had a blast seeing you guys again, and meeting the new guys also. A good turnout of FSM members, 15 in total.
Congrats to you all on your wins, they were ALL well deserved. The FSM crew racked up quite a few wins, especially Dupes, who has moved up to the Advanced level [Y].
Looking forward to next year guys.
Cheers
Rob
Soory I took so long, congrats to everyone. As always the best part of the show is seeing you all and having a great time with the forum members.
I have posted the pic in aseperate thread…
I am off to the land of Oz…this was a great yet long two day…always great to be amoung friends!!
Rounds Complete!!
If I didn’t get to shake all your hands at the show… BIG TIME CONGRATS to all the winners.
I got 3 golds, for the T-34/76 1941, The 120mm fig…“For my son, if I make it home.” and the dio,'The uneasy Calm"

Didn’t know the rule that if there are 2 entries in the same category you can only get 1 medal. Fair enough rule. They called out a silver for the Pz IV G but the Jagdtiger had the exact same score so it really could be for either 1.

Congrats Marc, a much deserved win…And congrats to all you other guys wish I could have gone…

Great work guys! I was amazed by our turn out and our contributions to the show. 30 some odd models between 15 or so guys. Awesome! Really quality work.
I was blown away when I received Gold for my M60. Didn’t see that coming. Its the first medal I’ve ever taken…even though its only the 2nd show I’ve entered. I guess now I graduate to Intermediate level. I should probably step it up a notch to get any where near what you guys put up!
Can’t wait for next year, and Mosquito Con. Hope to see you gents there again!
Congrats to everyone. I’m very happy to hear so many won an award. It doesn’t surprise me a bit though, for we get to see all your work here in the forums.
Marc, I’m still blown away at how seemless of a transition you’ve made from modeling A/C to armor. The awards speak for themselves.
Well…since were posting…I had 5 entries…I took home two Golds, two Silver and one Bronze
It was a good weekend on the model side but the best part was seeing everyone…it dwarfs the awards
Rounds Complete!!
Very impressive haul, guys…
Yeah, I don’t like that rule either Wingnut…I think it discourages people from bringing more models…I mentioned it to the head judge at the last AMPS I went to and his only reply was, “Well we ask you to bring your best, not your entire collection…”.
Bad rule IMO…I will now bring fewer models (one per category) if they don’t have a chance to medal…
I don’t know. I wouldn’t call it a bad rule. My first year at AMPS I made the mistake of entering three builds in the same category so I was shocked to only take one medal. But when I got to thinking about it, I realized that this rule actually makes me more likely to diversify. Now, instead of building a bunch of German tanks through the year, I’m more likely to branch out into something modern or allied or artillery.
So, I think it has some good and bad to it, just like most rules.[:D]
Congrads to all who won and it sounds like it was a fun time had by all. Good deal all around.
I don’t think YOU made the mistake—I think the mistake was made in limiting the number of times you can medal in the same category…some guys like one area of modeling, like German tanks. I don’t think they should be forced to change their modeling preference because of a bad rule…I feel that if you enter 3 German tanks that all deserve to medal, then they should all medal. I know that’s a difficult concept for many AMPS guys to grasp, but there it is…I know many guys who limit what they bring to the show because of this rule and that isn’t god for the hobby…
Anyway, I digress—congrats to everyone and good to see the fellowship that took place…
Don’t do it! Don’t break your own rules! Don’t… ah screw it[:P]
I hope this doesn’t turn into a, "What’s the correct shade of dunkel gleb?’
I agree with Boyd. No bad rules but definitely good and bad thing about a rule. But at the same time I agree with manny. Amps judging, when the proponents discuss it (read that argue) that you are competing against yourself and a set of criteria. For me it is a better measure as to how I am doing and what to improve than IPMS style of judging. So if you are not entering for the critique, as manny says, why bring more than one entry for a category. And let’s face it, one of the pluses from these shows, if they are a success, is the club makes some money. And the success of the show is measured in number of entrants and models on the tables. Which show will you go to? The one with 100 models on the tables or the one with 500 models on the bales?
I will more than likely continue to bring more than 1 entry for a category because I want the feed back. But, and I say this trying to use my head and not my ego, I also want that medal. Just like I want that trophy or plague at an IPMS event. (Hmmm? So that’s why they call me a trophy whore at my club sometimes[whstl][;)] Oh crap! Did I say that out loud? [:D]
"Just like I want that trophy or plague at an IPMS event. (Hmmm? So that’s why they call me a trophy whore at my club sometimes Oh crap! Did I say that out loud? "
Only if you let the trophies or medals become the hobby or sole inspiration…If you get like this

Then you have a problem

I did the same thing Boyd did last year: I entered 3 German tanks, and they all earned enough for a Silver, but I was awarded only one medal. While I would have liked to have medals for all three, I was actually pretty happy with the fact that all three were considered to be “silver medal eligible”.
This year, I expanded my horizons a bit more and entered 4 models in 4 different categories. I didn’t really plan it that way when I started building them, but I did consider it when I was finishing them, and AMPSEast was getting closer. I would build different models anyway, but it’s good to be able to enter, and medal in a bunch of different categories.
Oh yeah, I won 3 Silvers, and 1 Bronze in the Intermediate category.[:D]

Congrats to all the winners. Wish there were shows of this caliber and size up here in Canada.
