wood display bases

Any place to buy wood display bases and nameplates online?

I know if you live near a craft store they sell them there in various sizes and you could get a nameplate done at a trophie shop. As far as online you cuold try looking around at

Thats just a few that I have found.

I have done some nameplates myself and this is how I did it.
I made the text on computer and printed it out. I then used a lacquer to fasten it to a strip of balsa wood. Then I brushed an oil based varnish on it which makes the paper almost transparent but the text is still visible.
Then I made a mahogany “frame” and attached a transparent plastic sheet on top.

I don’t know of any places online, but your local hardware store would be a very good place.
On that note, recently we were renovating our house and replaced all our stairwells with hardwood ones. The old ones were disassembled, and I was left with 20 very nice base boards

Jonasaberg,
Do you have any pictures? That sounds like something I would like to do myself. That way I can also add symbols as well. For instance, on my SS figure I can add a red swastka on either side of the name and date and such. Now, if i only still had my woodworking shop I could do it all myself…

Sorry, no pictures.
I don´t have a digital camera so I can´t really post any pic´s. I would also need a close up lens to get good quality.

Hi ThorsHammer,

Have you considered building the base yourself and having a trophy shop make the label[?]

You can get some very nice wood at your local Lowes or Home Depot[:D] Use that for the border and use styrafoam such as used for building insulation for the inside and go from there[2c]

I’m building my first diorama and thats what the base is being made of[^]

Good luck[:D]

I have thought about making wooden bases in the past for resale as I have a nice wood shop. I just wondered if there was a market for the finished product?

Hi Woody,

With the questions I have seen in this forum regarding bases I would imagine that there would be a good market for your bases[:D]

Advertise in the FSM and see where it goes[2c]

Good luck (I think it will work)[:)][:)][:)]

I would definately buy a couple of bases from ya woody if you started something like that up. Right now I’m trying to figure out a way to incorporate a squadron patch with my F4U-2 Corsair build, but have yet to think of anything.

Yes, I have thought about making bases. in fact, I used to have a woodworking business and had everything and did make some bases in the past but have since then sold it all. I like the idea of the labels printed out on my new printer. I think they would look good with alittle color added to them. Do they sell little bases like that at wal mart in the craft section?

You can also try thrift stores like good will and the like I scored a few months ago at one 10 of them in various sizes and shapes and only .25 cents each.
