Good morning guys,
I ordered this kit from my LHS mid January, I got a phone call from the shop on Monday this week to say it was in. I’ve just been to pick it up seeing as it’s payday today and DML are expensive at the best of times. £49-99 this cost. I could have got it slightly cheaper on the net but with carriage I’m over the £50 mark then and I’d hate to see a kit that’s been sent in the post. I’ve seen some real horror pictures of crushed and damaged Royal Mail delivered kits!
Anyway, it’s the Dragonsd.Kfz…171 Panther G with Zimmerit pre moulded (kit No #6384). I’ve heard some GREAT things about this kit and I must say it looks STUNNING. She’s going to be be big and she’s probablyly going to have Fruils-the vinyl tracks do look very good so we’ll see.
I’ve got my current WIP StuG which needs a few more weekends spent on it. The tools need re painting as I’m not happy with them, the Wittman figure needs painting, the Fruils need assembling, the smoke candle chain pulls at the rear need sorting out, the underside of the hull needs the weathering treatment and a general tidy-up all over should see her complete [H]
Before commencing the Panther G build I’ve got a Tamiya 1/48 Tiger I in the stash which I’d like to build purely as it’s a simple build, it’s my favourite tank of all time and the easy Tamiya build will help clear my mind - two DML kits on the trot might be the end of me!
I built this Tiger kit as my first ever build last June/July and as you can imagine it’s not great so I want to re-build it using my new found skilld that were non existent when I started my first Tiger model. I’m going to paint it Dunkelgelb and weather it beautifully-I’ll obviously keep the original Tiger to use as a ‘test-bed’ for new methods.
Anyway - I digress, on to the Panther G. When the Tiger is complete and ready to ‘go for it’ I’ll get started on it. I’m planning a picture frame base with some shrubs and rubble and a figure or two-I’m hoping that it will take pride of place!
I’ve been thinking about cammo schemes (see photos below and as I’m not sure when I can afford my compressor (HOPEFULLY AT THE END OF MARCH). If I’m still struggling with funds I’m thinking of laying down the base coat of Dunkelgelb using my pSingle action AB and using the Normandy 1944 markings which is basically MM or equvalent Khaki Green & Red Brown 'dabbed on over the base. I’m thinking that I could do this very effectively using masking and my AB OR a brush cut relatively square and just dab on the markings.
Also, if anyone knows of a step-by-step guide that is out there to building this beast I’d be VERY greatful for a link to it. I used a blog that WBill put together for the StuG III that is my current WIP and that has been a real help!
What do you think about my idea for cammo? AB’d spots or brush ‘dabbed’ spots? What would work best?
