Women Can Get So Dang Mad

Well, I went to a hobby show today. Wanted to buys some WW II Japanese aircraft and other models of interest from the vendors. Picked up a factory sealed 1/48 scale Nichimo Kawasaki Ki 45 “Nick” for $10 along with a few other kits. Like around 34 few others kits. Man I can’t pass up a good deal. You should have seen the look on the wife’s face when I came around the corner with the dealer’s tote full of model kits. Our couch is pretty comfortable. The Nick has the original price tag of $6.50 on it. Did I tell you I can’t pass up a good deal?

If you’re like me, you don’t complain much when your wife spends $200 at the hair-salon, or a like amount at the shoe store.

Stereotypical? Yes.

Looks like a sweet haul, though! A night or two on the couch would have been worth it for me. Of course, I’ve got a nice garage to sleep in, too!

looks like a fantastic stash. when will we see progress pics.

hehehehehe

Been there, done that, paid the price.

[:D]

If I came home with 35 models at one time, my wife would probably use an equal amount of money to learn TAXIDERMY! [:o]

That’s a nice stash. [tup]

My wife to be starts to complain about my 100 and some kits, then I just point out the stacks upon stacks of those braindead mindless ‘entertainment’ magazines like US Weekly, People, Cosmo, etc. that she goes through week after week. The list goes on and on to the point where her night table could be mistaken for a newsstand.

I ran a spreadsheet to show not only does the annual cost of her ‘hobby’ (I guess you could call it that) cost more than my collection, but in five years with an assumed 5% appreciation across the board on my kits (got some oldies) the value of my stash exceeds the value of her magazines.

Numbers don’t dance for a lot of people. Just throw together a quick financial model in a spreadsheet (leave out the assumptions - Sarbanes/Oxley doesn’t apply to domestic disputes [:D]) and walk her through it. They can’t argue with numbers… numbers don’t lie.[;)]

So…How did she like sleepin’ on the sofa? Hehe![:D]

Fightnjoe, you want progress pictures? Hahahaha. You got to spend time building to show progress pictures. I spend too much time on the forums and looking for buys to make any progress! Besides if I built them I would have to buy more and that would mean more couch time. I’m actually working on the P-51K and a Ki-36 right now, pics soon on those two. A 1/72 LS Ki-46 Dinah is the first one from the “stash” I think I’ll get to. The LS kit looks to be a pretty nice kit, anyone have any experience with LS kits?

Lol at oldhooker, nice picture! I’ve felt that was before, just not over model kits.

Here’s bottom line on the stash. If you figure in the Nick that I paid $10 for, a 1/48 MPM/CMK Bucker Bu181 also sealed for $5, a 1/72 LS Ki-46 Dinah I paid $5 for, a 1/72 He51 I gave $2.00 for and an Aifix Dinah for another $2.00 I’m into each kit a little over a buck fifty each. A few of the kits will probably get sold or traded along the way.

Actually my wife was ok with it. She quilts and one quilt cost 3 or 4 times more then what I spent on these models, and besides the payback comes next weekend at the quilting show in Portland. She actually thought I had borrowed the kits from a dealer as a joke. My wife is cool, she lets us plan our vacations around aircraft museums. I’m think I’m going to keep her.

Nice haul!! Should keep you occupied for a week or two [:)].

Regards, Rick

Dan, if your wife quilts, then you know how much those handmade quilts sell for. I just thought of a way you can buy a whole lot more models.

PS Frank, that’s the best post I’ve seen all week.[(-D]

Looks very lifelike, Frank.
I may have to send my next big buck to her to do!! [:P]

Just show her my basement:

It does not hurt to sleep in the couch for a few nights in exchange for your haul. Next time be discreet when you bring home what you buy. That’s what I do!

Looks like you had a good day and she’ll get over it - mine always does.

oldhooker you put me on the floor that time… great stuff.

As Swanny says she will get over it… mine does too.

alogn with the haul, get her something too. helps diffuse the “you spent HOW MUCH! ?” in between hersehy’s kisses

Awesome haul and it looks like you got some very good deals.[:)] My wife occasionally comments about my stack of unbuits in the closet, but she gets over it. I don’t get on her case when she “splurges” on occasion so that doesn’t give her the chance to get on my case when I do.[:D] Overall, she’s very supportive of my hobby.[:)]

Frank: Great post![(-D]

That’s what I’d call a successful shopping mission, Dan. A night or two on the couch? You still got the better end of the deal. Remind her that model building is still cheaper than therapy. . .

I got the opposite problem… went to Hobby Lobby this weekend to pick up some paint (it’s a LOT closer than the LHS and just needed some basics, flat black etc…) ended up looking at a few models and got a A6M2 to round up my little collage hangin above my computer desk… bought a few things for the airbrush while I was there… I felt pretty good when I got to the checkout… 89 dollars total… well I made the BIG mistake walking out the door by telling her about the Hobby Craft 1/24 Spitfire that WAS 120 dollars marked down to 40 dollars…

I got a butt chewing like you wouldn’t believe!!! "You’re gonna come back and it’s gonna be gone… etc… etc… etc… “I hate when you won’t spend money on yourself!” (meanwhile I am thinking of the 90 I just spent…)

It went on and on all the way to the car… “But…But…But…” I said… (It’s all she’d let me get out) I don’t know any other couples that get into arguments about how much money you DIDN’T spend on models…

End result?

She made me by a few more in addition to the Spit… and there they sit…

I know all about the women getting mad. Been there done that. The one thing that suprised me about the IPMS Kalamazoo Contest yesterday, well actually coming home from it. Was that I walked in with about 7 “new” models, and she didn’t get upset, not even a word. She just said “OK”. I just couldn’t pass up on the Monogram 1/48 P-61Black Widow with Aeroscale decals for $5. I sure couldn’t pass that up.
