Here’s a way-cool shot of some Finnish Brewsters inflight during either the Winter War or the Continuation War…

Very cool pic, its refreshing to see aircraft in another countries markings. Thanks for sharing.

There’s just something about a Buffalo’s empenage that doesn’t look right.
Nice pics. Classic Airframes is on the verge of releasing the Finnish Buffalo in 1/48 & MPM is rumored to be doing one in 1/32. Great time to be a modeler.

Neat picture. I wasn’t aware that planes besides the Luftwaffe used the Swastika.

It’s technically not a swastika. I forget what the light blue Finnish insignis is called. Anyone else know?
Well, yes, it is a swastika; a swastika is a swastika is a swastika.
It only happens that a certain political party adopted the symbol as its own and transformed said symbol from one of good luck and fortune into a universal household icon representative of evil, goose stepping jackboots and a myth which goes by the name of ‘Blitzkrieg’. (as well as bad haircuts)
The swastika has been around much longer than those evil-doers and does not always neccessarily have a connection with the Nazi party.
Anyhoo, the Finnish word for the symbol is ‘hakaristi’. More info HERE.
Another nation which used the swastika as a national symbol on its aircraft was Latvia, as seen on these Gladiators. The colors of the marking were red and white.

Blackwolf is right…
The “swastika” has been used for literally hundreds and hundreds of years…Native Americans used it as a symbol of good luck long before the white man ever arrived in North America…and the Finnish air force used their hakaristi in “square” form - points at 45 degrees…as opposed to Axis aircraft, which used it “diamond” form - points at zero and 90 degrees…
Great photo, Blackwolf…thanks again, mate.
Good one Steve, thanks again.

That’s the word I was looking for!
This pic reminds me. Has anyone checked out the Tamiya re-release of their Buffalo?
I’m not mistaken the latest boxing of Tamiya’s Buffalo is the same as the original boxing. I have not seen it myself, though, and so cannot say for sure.
I heard of the Special Hobby Buffalo, but don’t recall the Classic Airframes… or do I??? [%-)] (EDIT: Yes, now I do… [:p]) Anyhoo, even with the new kit(s) coming out I’m holding onto the 'ole Tamiya kits… just in case…
