Missed a few days, so maybe I should call this ‘Wolf’s Picture of Every Few Days’…
Anyhoo, this one is for all those folks who like nice, dead-flat finishes on their military aircraft models… [;)] Sorry for the small size and/or poor quality but the subject matter is worthy, I’d say!

And as a bonus, this is a related bit of miscellany…

Good point Steve. Most of these birds were actually painted in a gloss or semi gloss paint, which quickly weathered to the flat finish usually seen on our models. But polishing & waxing was a very common practice in order to maximize performance. I have seen similar pics of an OD P-47D Razorback being given the same treatment.

those are very interesting Steve!! i still like the flat finish on military stuff though![:)]
Fantastic images, Steve.
Thanks, man.
Hmm, break out the Zaino or Meguiar’s! Time to wax 'dem Warbirds! Interesting picture though. I was reading information on the P-61 Black Widow and read that some versions were painted in a semigloss black. Interesting… you’d think everything military was matte. [;)]
Just put a couple of gallons of Future in a vat and dip them all and be done with it once and for all!!
If memory serves, did’nt Robert Johnson in his book recount waxing their T-bolts? It was thought it would give them a 3 or 4 mph increase in speed?
Anyway, that’s a great pic, and great point!
Thanks for posting it[;)]
I’m with saltydog on this one: military stuff looks meaner in a flat finish.
