WnW 1:32 scale DH.9a WIP

I completed the Liberty engine so work has now started on the aircraft. The fuselage interior has been completed, all the wood has been done with oil paints over acrylics then sprayed with Humbrol Matt Cote. I added stirrups to both rudder bars and connected the two with control cables. The radiator shutter lever and both throttles have had control cables fitted. I wired up the light switch box and connected them to the battery. The decals on the instrument panel went on beautifully and fitted each instrument perfectly, no trimming required.

Nice…a shame lots of that will get covered up. I just picked up my first WnW and am anxious to get to it.

Thanks Hutch for your comments.

The DH.9a has a very open cockpit so most of the detail will still be visible. I am also building this model with all engine covers off so the Liberty engine will be in full view.

Excellent…I look forward to seeing the finished product.

airtourer,

Beautiful job on getting the wood to look realistic, one would think its built out of wood!

Heard nothing but praise regarding WnW products, good to see a new domestic manufacture competing (In this case beating) the big three Asian manufactures.

Jason

Beautuful work there Airtourer, looks like you a of the a great start!

How can a New Zealand company be called “domestic” by a Canadian? Because they are all part of the Commonwealth?

The people down under are brothers & sisters of us Canadians!

They come here to work at the ski hills and towns like Jasper & Banff.

Worked at a ski hill 89-90 season & had two flat mates from NZ, great people with heaps of character.

Yes and because they are part of the commonwealth.

I’m jealous. Of course I could just order one. I have the Bristol and the LGV already in my styrene pit.

God, I wish they had something back when I was a teen in the early 60s. Can you imagine how it would look back in the day when we had no guilt in setting one on fire and watch all those little black thingys flying around the air.

Des that is outstanding work. One of the best interiors I’ve seen.

The WNW kit are pretty sweet aren’t they. I am working on a D.Va in the WWI GB and I have to say I feel the same way as i did when i started doing armor, which pulled me away from aircraft for a while now. I may be getting hooked on the WWI stuff.

keep posting your progress. I wanna watch this take shape.

Just checked your site. I didn’t make the connection but I’ve been to your sight countless time for tips. Didn’t you post the most awesome wicker seat a while back?

Thanks very much for all the kind comments, they are much appreciated.

Marc - I scratch built an open back wicker seat for my WnW Bristol F.2b model, pictures of it can be seen on my website. It was my second attempt at building a wicker seat the first being in the Roden DH.2 model. They take time and patience but the results can be very pleasing, I believe there are some pretty good resin wicker seats now available.

Here is the photo of the wicker seat I made for the Bristol F.2b. It is made from copper wire and monofilament for the weave, the wicker is painted with Gunze middlestone acrylic and clear coated with Humbrol Matt Cote.

Just one question… How long did it take you to paint your driveway green and white to make the seat look like a miniature?

I have made a little more progress on the DH.9a. The fuselage went together beautifully with only a small amount of filler needed on the seams. The tail also went together perfectly, tail rigging will be the next step. Wingnuts have supplied wonderful decals, they settle and adhere extremely well. The wings are painted as are the struts so assembly is close.

I gotta get me a WnW beast. They look pretty epic.

You’re freaking me out, man…[:D[[Y]

I have completed the tail end rigging and added the control cables. I used 0.12mm mono and painted it with Mr Metal Color Stainless. I used 0.5mm brass tube for the turnbuckles, 0.13mm copper wire for the eyelets and 0.4mm brass tube for the small sleeves, the sleeves are 0.75mm long. I highlighted the fabric stitching with Gunze Hemp applied with a small pointed brush.
