Hello all,
This is my WIP - Revell 1:32 Hawker Hunter F.6.
It’s coming along nicely despite my best efforts lol. This has been a mega learning curve for me, virtually all the things you guys n gals take for granted have all been new to me. The undersurfaces are rattle can Halford’s (auto) aluminium plus Future gloss coat. Top surface camos are Hannant’s Xtracrylic brush painted plus Future gloss coat. Major blunder on this, used wrong shade of Grey, so what you see is 2 lots of paint and Future as I had no way to remove the error. It’s got more paint on than a real Hunter [:)]
As you can see the Future is VERY shiny, just fine for the MEGA decal session to come (approx 150 of them), but it’s a little too shiny. I’m thinking of doing the top surfaces with Vallejo rattle can Satin varnish to tone it down a little, opinions on this most welcome. I’ve tried taking the Future itself back with some matt varnish but the brush painted coats looked too streaky. Having no Air Brush yet it’ll have to be the rattle can. All other colours were enamels or acrylics from Humbrol, Revell and Hannants Xtracolor range. Quite a complicated build for me as it was so big.
One final thing I’d like some help on. Aerials, there are a pair on the belly, stick type ones, I’ve seen them in silver, grey, black and yellow. Anyone know what colour they should be ?
Will be marking this one up as No.56 Squadron, Waterbeach UK, circa 1960.
Post on the decal forum about the serials all over the wheel well area, (thanks for nothing Revell).
First go at cutting Tamiya tape on the canopy, that was stressful lol.
Still plenty to do on it, but I’m happy so far, and it does look like a Hunter [:)] Lots wrong with it too, but I know more or less what I did wrong and why. If you are going to do one of these, DON’T put the front wheel strut on in step 7, figure out a way to do it at the end, as you will see I broke mine off, and it was a white metal one from Aeroclub, so a plastic one will be even more at risk.
In the pics, canopy and seat are posed not attatched yet, other sub assemblies ready too.
Any comments advice etc welcome.
Good fun this one. [tup]
All the best,
Mick C.
