After a bit a cursing I have some Alclad II on my 1/48 Hasegawa P-47D Bubbletop. The kit is a pretty decent build and my only issue was with the wing seam on the underside front. Filler and sanding took care of that. I’m now at the stage of where to go next. I am doing #42-26800 “Evie” / Lt. G.W. Orange (405FG) decals by Eagle Strike. Photos of this aircraft that I can find online show it pretty weathered. My plans are to gloss coat and decal as a normal painted non-NMF bird then matt up the finish a little to get that weathered look. Since this is new territory I have my trusty Revell Spit wing that I’m trying these techniques on first. Hopefully they will work out well. Ignore the man behind the curtain (or the tail wheel area) I plan on masking that off and shooting it. The hand painted look looks bad.

In case your curious, its Dark Aluminum overall with mix of Dark Aluminum / Duraluminum for the weapon bays. Exhaust strip is aluminum / dark aluminum mixed.

My other question is with the nose art decal. I’m curious if anyone has used “Evie” or any of the other Eagle Strike nose art decals to comment on if I should try and shoot some white down first. The nose art overlaps NMF and the blue nose this unit carried.

David, I think that Aeromaster and Eagle Strike are essentially one-in-the-same. If so, I recently did a couple of P-47 Razorbacks, Red Dog and Donnie Boy Aeromaster Decals. The nose art on both were split on OD and a white nose. Both were thick and opaque enough to not need a solid backing color.
