Testors did a small collection of Schnider cup models years ago. I believe this type predates schnider cup by 30 years. 
I don’t feel shelving a project is a bad move. Matter of fact it gives one a chance to explore the subject more closely. I’ll mock up the project then sit on it for awhile.Stay tuned… I’ll try not to brag on maintaining the craft of model making. But it’s much cheaper and really their not scale more facsimiles of and open to interpretation. 
This mock up was old shelving from a renovation from a home was built in the 60’s. Which makes the model old…this last photo is my inspiration. This company sells its work for $250.00 more than enough reason to emulate it . Maybe mine will be as good…

My favorite era for aircraft is the golden age, and this fits nicely. I’m also interested in your building techniques. I’ve read a lot about building from block wood, but never tried it.
I have the 1/48 Fine Molds release of the S.21 (kit no. FG-1) from the Ghibli film, Kurenai no Buta. It’s a great kit, but I’ve not finished it. It’s also a very good movie, if you haven’t seen it.
This movie inspired me as did the above custom made model. I hope this helps you to do a little work on yours.
