I have been away from the hobby for almost 20 yrs. I am now married & have a Terrible 2 boy running around. I really got back into the hobby to reteach myself fine motor skills ( last yr I broke, dislocated, tore ligiments in my elbow, sure enough it was my primary hand) . So please take the images you are about to see as someone relearning a ton of stuff as quick as possible.
On to the model. I am building the Hasegawa F-14D and am planning on painting the aircraft using the Jolly Rogers as depicted in the NAS Oceana static display. this is the only aircraft (d model) to use the JR scheme, that I know of. I am also going to use the AIRES F-14d cockpit & Fightertown decals.
I had to jump ahead in this kit, while waiting for the cockpit to arrive. I started assembling the fuselage & was amazed at the number of parts in the new kits. The fuselage so far is 12 parts. This is the wheel well and the other looks almost the same.
a head on look of the intakes, sorry for the dark pics, need to get another lamp.
Pics of my Tailpipes, they where painted and washed. i then used Tamiya weathering powders to add rust, soot, and blueing.
As I have stated before, I am working on improving my pictures. Any help/comments with this model will be appreciated.
It looks A-okay to me! The Jolly Roger squadron has always been my favorite markings. I even have a Dragon 1/144 kit of the F-14 in those markings as well. Gotta love them. Is the Hasegawa kit the one with the dropped slats and flaps? Post more pics ASAP! The two planes that looked the best with everything hanging down were the F4U Corsair and the F-14 (in my opinion anyway).
Eric
PS. Did you really post those pics at 4:12 AM?!? I’m still counting sheep at that time!
Yes this aircraft has the slats & flaps But this aircraft will be sitting on the ground. Most of the aircraft I have seen on the ground do not have flaps or slats out & the wings are swept to the rear, and the horizontal stabs are in a relaxed position almost touching the swept wing.
Local time of that post above was somewhere around 10pm here in Okinawa, Japan. was hopeing to have a couple days off work for a typhoon, but it just skirted us[banghead].
