Ive been away from the hobby since I was a teenager. I posted in another post that my son who is 9 years old has taken an interest in building which in turn has got my juices flowing again. This is the Revell 1/32 BF-109-G6 kit. Doing it in the JG-54 scheme. Always liked this plane and never did one in the past. Im gonna try do some light weathering, I never did any weathering on my planes years ago so this is all a learning experience for me this go around. Hopefully it turns out decent and I don’t make a mess of it. I don’t get much time to work on it juggling work and family and I should have posted some pics earlier but i will try and update regularly of the progress. Hope everyone enjoys and I would love any comments good or bad… only way I’ll learn.
VC which is PC for very cool, looks like you did a fair amount of research. I have never seen a 109 with aerodynamic leading edge slats, hadn’t really thought about it. Great looking so far and thanks for giving me something to think about when I get around to building the 4 or5 I have in my stash.
AND…welcome back to it! You’ll find that things have changed a lot! From the engeneering in kits to the wonderful world of aftermarket items.
One thing I see, though…ya got the color right, for the pit, but gear bays and other (non-manned) areas should be the light grey/green (RLM02) color. Early war colors were RLM02 for all interior areas…later, the pit (or manned areas) were the dark grey, like you have, but the unmanned areas kept the RLM02. Anyway…carry on and enjoy!!![t$t]
You’re doing a fantastic job, it looks as if you’ve never left the hobby. Keep up the great work, kudos for getting your nine year old son involved in the hobby. I’m looking forward to more of your progress especially the end result of your project!
Thanks for the comments, I painted the wheel wells with Tamiya XF-22 RLM Gray which I thought was the RLM02 equivalent. Is this not a good match? I read where it was a close enough match so no other mixing was required. Maybe I read some bad info.
I did the same thing about 3 years ago and I’m very happy to be back in the hobby.
You’ve picked a good model to “restart” with and you’re doing a good job with it. The office looks well done as does your detail painting of it. Looking forward to seeing more.
Off to a nice start, i like the look of the pit. Look forward to seeing this progress.
XF-22 should be close enough for the wheel wells. But yours does look a bit dark. If you had not said which paint you used, i would have guessed XF-63 German grey. Could it be the light.
Like Bish said…maybe it’s just the lighting, coupled with the contrast between the painted areas and non painted areas??? If so…desregard my previous statement and carry on!
I’m not up on Tamiya(?) color/numbers, as I only use Model Masters…you can see here…the gear bays are RLM02, while the pit is RLM66(ish!)…
I got back into it tHe same way when my older son was the same age! Then my next son got the bug and Ive been in it non stop for the last 15 years. I love all the advances in the hobby that let mediocre skills like mine build nice kits. I generaly build aircraft I did not build as a kid. Theres a lot more availble to us now.
Able to finally post some finished pictures. Overall I’m very happy with how it turned out especially being out of the hobby for so long. Definitely not flawless by any means and I learned what to do and not to do on certain things on the next build. Hope everyone enjoys.
Thanks… and yes you got me, this wasn’s my first “kit”. I built a 7.5cm pak 40 just so I could make sure I can still follow instructions (old lady says no). First aircraft though[ap]
