I started on this one late last fall but had to set it aside because of the cold weather.(I was painting in the garage)
Now i’m ready to get this show back on the road so i’ll bring you guys up to date. I used a Voyager PE set.

The tracks are from Friul and ready to install.

I’ve got my base coat of dark yellow on and hope to start the color coat in a day or so.

Thanks for looking in on me.[:D] Tony the Mutt
Looking nice! Real clean paint job
Chris the paint came from Wal-Mart. My younger brother took a bottle of Tamiya dark yellow over there and they did a color analysis to match it. $6.00 for a quart of acrylic. That’s cheap enough for anybody.[swg]

Tony–
P-L-E-A-S-E!!!
Throw some lightened DY down on that drab coat! Lighten up the panels, leaving the darker DY on the edges–don’t be afraid to go waaaay light–you’ll thank yourself later!
That base coat–in my opinion–is way too dark.
YES SIR, Your wish is my command.[swg]
You stepped into this so do I do that now are after I paint my camo pattern?
Be sure to clean off your boots before you go back in the house.[:D] Tony the Mutt
Nice to see this one get wheeled back onto the bench Tony. I concur with doog’s advice and you should definitely lighten it before you apply the camo. That way you’re not trying to fight the scheme in terms of the starting point of your lightened color and won’t have to worry about masking or potential overspray.
Somebody refresh my memory Please. I believe it was back about July 06 there were discussions about how one should lighten up a color. “Always use Buff or Flesh and never White” seem to be the consensus back then. Now after doing some net searching it seems that the use of White is back to the fore-front. So how say you folks???
Also only lighten the color by 10% at a time adding 10% to the mix each time you do lighter shadeing toward the center. How say you again on this technique???
Thanks for your opinions

I normally will use Light Gray to lighen vs. outright Flat White but it’s down to personal preference and intended result more than anything else. White won’t introduce tonal shifts but will truly lighten whereas using other colors like Buff will change the tone as well as lighten. As far as applying different ratios as you move in, that probably would work on large surface areas but wouldn’t be something I’d recommend for smaller areas as it will be too small for the effect to really be noticeable.
Tony, I actually add the DY to the color–like, add DY to the WHite, or Gray, or Buff. In fact, Buff with a little bit of White or gray is a good starting point for fading.
You owuld have to like DUMP lightening color into the DY to actually affect it efficiently for what you want–bettter to do it the other way around.
I add about 20% DY to White.
Todays progress: Skirts and tracks installed

I don’t know why this last picture is so dark unless that reflection tricked the camera.[:(]

Vey nice Tony. Really coool shading on those wheels!
Tony, Tony,Tony… what can I say that has not already been said… The wheels do look just great, tracks are brilliant love your choice of colour. Great work so far. I’m looking forward to seeing this progress as I have one of these kits myself.

OK Boyz is this light enough?? Thought i’d show you while the decals are drying out before I seal them up and get on with the washes.

I used your 50/50 mix of MM Lt Grey and LifeColor Dark Yellow.
Thanks for taking a look Tony the Mutt
Looks very nice! I need to get my airbrush work up to par for my next soft-edge camo job, yours looks great. Also like the MG
Looking good Tony! The “cloud” pattern is one of my favorite schemes. [tup] The “missing link” also caught my eye. [;)]
Thanks PO and Bill I was a link short. They fit when I made them up but that side was just a little too tight when I put them back on. Thought I would give it a different color so it would look like a replacement link.[:D]

Color looks great as does the camo Tony. [tup]
