I have started the weathering process on the Val over the last couple nights. This kit is an experiment build in trying many new techniques. The kit is being built out of the box, nothing fancy. It’s the first:
Thanks for the encouragement. The oil weathering is turning out much better then I expected and allows for me to experiment and clean up and/or redo any areas I am not happy with. Unlike sludge washes I can really add subtle amounts of weathering per panel to vary the tones.
All your firsts are winners. You did a great job on that bird, and it looks like you have a new favorite weathering technique. Well executed. Don’t you love it when a plan comes together?
Finished up the VAL today. I enjoyed this one and though it’s an older kit with limited detail, it turned out well. When starting this build I used it as a test bed for new techniques. I wasn’t going for total accuracy so the weathering may not be accurate but I had fun with it.
Thanks guys. This build really has got me motivated to paint more markings and skip the decals. I have some clear bench space so time to stare at the stash and pic a new kit, woohoo!
I have never done a WW2 German bomber. I have a monogram promodeler junkers Ju 88 that may be next. It has the option for a mottle paint scheme which would also be a first for me. WIP thread to follow soon.
Weathering with oils is my favorite way to do it as well. Cheap to do and very forgiving. All I bought was 3 tubes of oil (black, brown and white) and thinner so any shade can be mixed and it will last for a good long time considering how little pigment is used.
