Winter storm supplies

I’m sure there’s a lot of people on here that are in for quite a ride this weekend. We are about 15 miles south of Louisville, and are expected to get hammered. I hope everyone is stocked up on the essentials (glue, paint, sandpaper, and a large selection of models to choose from.
Of course, your favorite beverage, either on tap, or whatever’s in stock at your home bar. Cheers, and Happy Modeling.:clinking_beer_mugs::tumbler_glass::cocktail_glass::wine_glass:

I’m hoping this turns out to be a big nothing-burger where I’m at, roughly 10 miles west of Houston TX. But most of the country should expect real impacts from this storm if we’re to believe the weather forecasters.

I’m in Wisconsin. So that storm isn’t going to affect me any. But I’m still dealing with bitter cold temps and -30 to -45 wind chills today and this weekend.
Stocking up on models and model supplies is the least of my worries. If I was down south, I’d be more focused on food, water, prescriptions and health items, blankets, warm clothing, etc.
Here’s a tip: Try not to stock up on a lot of food that requires refrigeration, cooking, etc. If you lose heat, gas, water, and/or electric, then you aren’t going to be able to prepare a lot of stuff. Maybe try to stock up on non-perishable items instead that don’t require refrigeration, cooking, etc.

This post was meant to be humorous. Obviously, I’m not making light of a serious situation. I hope everyone is well stocked up on all the essentials. Be safe!!!

I am all stocked up. I got the last loaf of bread in Walmart Wednesday. All the Eggs and Ramen as well the bread were wiped out…

I’m all set for Snowmageddon.

As of right now, we are on tap to get close to 2 feet of snow. For Louisville, that is completely unheard of.

If you’re trying to stock up on model supplies to keep yourself busy during this snow and ice emergency, then what good will that do? If the utilities go out, you won’t have electric to run your air compressor for airbrushing, no light for seeing, etc., etc.

As for non-modeling preparedness, check this article:

Here in WNC,it looks like an Ice event mainly early sat evening till early sun afternoon,we’ll see just praying my power stays on,because losing that means no heat, water,or internet

The one thing I’m not worried about is food. My wife loves to can stuff like she’s preparing for the inevitable alien invasion or zombie apocalypse. If we were to lose our natural gas coming into the house, some of that might be difficult to heat up if we had also lost electricity, but there is a good bit of food that I could throw on the Kamado Joe smoker.

Our grill is always my back up plan.

I’ve got my stash at 53 models strong at the moment and my paint shelf looks like I sell Tamiya, Vallejo and Mission Models paints for a living. I have a good supply of Tamiya extra thin and Revell Contacta (which is quickly becoming my favorite glue) as well as generic super glue. As for running the compressor? I have a generator ready to fire up. I think I’m set.

Sounds like your ready. Everyone stay safe. I learned a valuable lesson a few years ago. We had a major ice storm. Power was out for almost a week. That next week, I purchased a generator from Lowe’s. Last year, I purchased an XXL Buddy Heater. Two things that are lifesavers.

I bought a generator last year but more for the power outages we get with any hurricane type of storm rather than an ice storm. Hoping I don’t have to use it for this winter storm, but I did fill up a 5 gallon tank of gas just in case to go along with another tank I had already filled.

I bought a small generator in 2013 after Hurricane Sandy knocked me out for 8 days.I stayed in NJ for 5 more years, and the generator never came out of its box again !!! I still have, but still havent used it in 13 yrs

I’m in the same situation that “WhatIfRebel” is, up here in NE Wisconsin. Temps this morning were -35 degrees with the wind chill. Two of our vehicles wouldn’t start this morning(dead batteries). Stock up on your staples, test your generator if you have one, and top of your gas tank on your car. Most importantly, everyone stay warm and stay safe.

I was just thinking this might be a good topic to talk about: What to do when your utilities go out and how do you keep your paints, thinner, etc. from freezing or other adverse effects, as well as maintenance tips for your air compressor and other modeling equipment during very cold weather.
Let’s all share some tips and ideas.
