Winter Diorama, my first build post.

I figured it out…the hosting sight had various options.

This is a diorama I finished a few weeks ago, it was tough taking pictures outside because we were in the middle of a snowstorm. I wanted to get a winter effect, but the angle I used got some unwanted structures as well. Depicts a resupply in the Korsun Pocket, March 44.

Both kits are DML, the Hummel is the newer Dragon version. I have a mixture of Dragon, Verlinden and Masterbox figures.

Modeling isnt hard enough, be we also have to master the art of closeup photography. I have some other shots of older builds, but I am still learning how to photograph better.

The shot above I took with an iPad, beleive it or not. I have a nice Canon Digital SLR, but Im still learning how to use it for closeups.

Whoa, at first glance I thought that was an actual photo of a scene you wanted to reproduce. Had to do a double take!! Nice work! How did the Hummel build up for you?

Hi Eric, thanks for the kind words.

This kit is a new DML offering #6321. I have never built their earlier Hummel kits, but I have heard that there were some “horror stories” about them, especially on the engine louvres, and the upper hull.

All in all it was a very nice build, if you are used to MKIV chassis a lot of the work is repetitive. The hull fits nicely, and there are some really finely detailed items in the back, like ammo lockers, with individual shells and propellent charge cases. The 15cm gun goes together nicely, and is also very detailed with some nice PE “extras”. The “Magic Tracks” can be fiddly, but I have begun to use a new glue made especially for scrap booking which holds the plastic links together and still allows you to bend them around the bogies hours later when you can permanently glue them in spots.

I also used this kit asmy first attempt at the “hairspray” painting technique, to simulate worn off whitewash on a dark yellow vehicle.

Very cool Fred. I too would like some extra photos, especially of the Hummel, as I too have the same kit.

I like the dirty, slushy snow coming off the tires and tracks.
