Wingnut Wings 1/32 scale Fokker E.IV

Hi guys,

I thought I’d stop by and post the Fokker E.IV I finished for November (Build a Model Month). Some of the guys from the WWI Aeroplane Group Build from a number of years ago, plus Terry Jessee of Scale Auto and FineScale Modeler fame, helped me model the engine-turned aluminum. Any failures of its appearance are completely my fault! The fuselage, wings, undercarriage, and frame are AK Interactive 3rd Generation WWI German Aircraft Colors.

Looks good coming from a " car guy" LOL. Really that is an excellent piece. I like WWI planes as ther convey the pilots " personality" in color and non standard markings.

I hope to cross paths with a WINGNUT WINGS kit someday. Great job and thanks for sharing.

Thank you for your kind words! Wingnut Wings kits are a pleasure to build, but not flawless. Still, I credit how nice this plane looks to the quality of the kit.

True, I was editor of Scale Auto, but I wouldn’t qualify myself as a “car guy.” My gloss clear game is rank amateur compared to most car modelers. But I’ll say I’m a pretty good editor, judge of stories, and curious as hell, so I fit the position pretty well–or at least the SCA contributors and readers told me so.

For my part, I’m much more comfortable with sci-fi, fantasy, figs, wooden ships, and, of course, WWI planes as subjects for building.

I’m working on a review of the Revell Outlands TIE fighter this weekend, need to put planks on a ship deck after that, and then I’ll turn my attention to a WNW Sopwith Snipe (Early) and get that going before the end of December.

you did a great job on it but I like em tan!

Thanks, Eugene! I instantly made a motor noise when I saw your pic.

Good to know aboit yoir Sci- Fi interest…should have remembered from yours and Aarons review of the Razorcrest. Like you my inyerset range wide however my completion rate is very very narrow.

I would also like to add that I think you are doing a bang up job as an editor…not sure I would want the job. Keep up the good work and HAPPY MODELING[8-|]

Not able to forsee that they would go out of business, I wish I had bought as many as I could get my hands on back when. I want a Hansa Brandenburg seaplane, but they go for many hundreds now.

Hey Tim (car guy)- if you need any hints about deck planking, call…

Bill

Yes sir make the motor noise too …as long as no one else is around, of course![:)]

Lots of motor noise here. I do that when people are around. Its more fun that way.

Very nice, Tim. [Y] Great photography too- course I would expect that from you!

Yeah, Aaron just recently finished shooting another full-build video, so the big Hasbro Razor Crest project is moving up in the lineup.

Again, thanks for the compliment. It’s a fun job that gives no end to inspiration from seeing what modelers like you. I see it at the shows, from the Reader Gallery and how-to submissions, and everything that’s posted on the Forum.

Happy modeling!

I am an anomaly in model-building circles–I typically hold to the rule that a model has to be built before a new kit comes into the house. I broke that rule with WNW kits. So, the supply sort of stacked up. Last year, my wife pointedly observed that the kits were going for a pretty penny. It is now my quest to get them built, and that’s what I’m doing in between my various other projects (scale model and otherwise).

If I need any help with the decking, I’ll be on the horn!

Eugene and Lurch:

You should hear us around the office: Engine noises. Explosions. Machine-gun fire. Laser blasts. You name it. And it doesn’t take much of a walk to head over the Model Railroader offices and listen to train whistles and steam engines chugging–those are mostly made with DCC chips though. Still, good times!

Thanks, Don!

Splendid work, Tim! [Y][B][Y][B]

Engine noises are fine…

…but to get the full effect, you’ve got to gulp down a shot of castor oil first. That’ll add that throaty, missing-cylinder quality to your “zoom-zooms” that really catches the ambiance of those old rotaries… [:D]

Thanks for the props, Greg. I appreciate it.

LOL

I’ll get right on that! (And then zoom-zoom to the bathroom.)

Props heeehee nice segway don’t forget to set the timing chain…wouldn’t want you to turn Wiley Coyote and shoot your own prop off[:|]

Tim I can see your wife rolling her eyes while you do your thing!

Very nicely finished model. Love it.

Tim , I wouldlike to spend a week in your shoes to see what you do thro. I bet it would be very interesting and funny to say the least.

She’s actually quite supportive of the building part of the hobby. The stash, not so much. [:D] To be honest, I’m in favor of keeping it to a minimum, too. Just my nature. But those WNW kits, man, they kept finding their way in!
