Hello all, new to the site, so, I’m gonna jump in here with my first submission. After putting this back in the box about 50 times in the past year, I finally finished WNW Duellist 2 pack. I finished the E.III rather quickly back in Dec '12, but, it was the DH.2 that presented the biggest challenge of my modelling life. Anyway, I can’t imagine how many hours I poured into this, but, it was a ton. The rigging alone kept me going for many hours as well. I can’t sing the praises of EZ Line any higher!! This was a good investment!! I have tried a similar substance from a sewing store, but, I could never find it again. I cannot get sufficient lighting to photograph my models, so, I apologize for the quality of the pic.
Hey Rob, Thanks for posting pics of your spectacular DH.2. That is definitely some excellent workmanship you have done there. I commend you highly for the patience and skill you put into it, especially on all that rigging.
Very nice! I finished that kit about a year ago, and it was a fun build, though it indeed took a lot of effort. I will definitely build another Wingnut kit (in fact have their SE-5 in the stash.
There is a GB for that, Marc, with one very noteworthy omission to the entry roster. [;)] Soooo…
Rob, that DH.2 is sweet! Great work on the rigging ( I too am sold on EZ Line! ) I am now so looking forward to seeing you build the Roland for the Anniversary GB (have you checked out the Gaspatch turnbuckles?). I contemplated entering that kit in the GB as well, but as there are already two (and maybe a third one, Marc? [6] ), opted for the Tripe instead. Also, cannot begin to tell ya how refreshing it is to have another fan of these amazing machines on the forums.
Thanks guys, yes, Mike, I have a pkg of Gaspatch turnbuckles for the Roland already. I did not have the ‘strength’ to imagine turnbuckling that DH.2 LOL!! Ok, Wing_Nut, that Roland certainly set the standard for sure. This will be the first time I try to woodgrain a fuselage and I will certainly be asking for some advice!!
Rob, I don’t blame ya one bit for choosing the no turnbuckles option on the DH2. I have an Fe.2b in the stash and will be taking the same route, but instead of EZLine will most likely go with Spider Wire, a very fine, non-stretchable multi-filament fishing line to add some strength to what looks to be a very fragile airframe.
Also, for your Roland, have you tried the Master brass Spandau gun barrels & cooling jackets? I get 'em from the Ultracast site, which has a lot of neat stuff.
Mike, I’ll look at that site for sure. I used 1/2 lb on Roden’s 1/32 Triplane. I was happy with the results, though, I’m pretty sold on the stretchable products, but, yes, the light fishlines do add real time strength. I hear there’s 1/3 lb, but, have never seen it (can’t imagine what fish I’d want to catch on it LOL).
Mike: DONE, Ultracast site - holy %$#, what a great site, AND , Canadian to boot!! I will be getting those brass parts for the Roland, BIG thanks (and again, the best modeling decision I’ve ever done by joining this site).
Glad you’re having a good time here Rob, and yeah, that Ultracast site is something else - that it’s Canadian is an added bonus for sure! [Y] Regarding that Spider wire, the stuff I saw was I believe 2 lb test, and it was super skinny - as thin as EZLine.
I’ve used those Master gun sets in both 1/48 and 1/32 and never used any solder on 'em. CA works just fine.
…oh, and those seatbelt sets are pretty nice too. [;)]
