Windows on Lancaster fusalage sides

Just a quick question. Im building the Tamiya 1/48 Lancaster. I not that although they include clear windows for the fusalage sides, most of them are painted out. My question is is that true of all lancasters? If so why did they put windows in in the first place?

Thanks

Antony

These are a hangover from the Avro Manchester & the first 300 or so Lancasters were Manchesters which were converted. The windows themselves coninued on with the “pure” lancaster & were deleted from production some time later.

I belive the whole side window thing came about from the possibility of the aircraft being used as a transport - possibly something the designers had up their sleeves, as it doesn’t look to be on the original Air Ministry Specification for the Manchester (P.13/36).
