I am working on a plane and I made a bad mistake. I got in a hurry and forgot to mask before I applied putty to the area that connects the fuselage and canopy.[oops] I ended up getting putty on the canopy. I tried to scrape as much as possible off with my finger. My question is can I sand the canopy and produce a clear finish using 3200 grit sandpaper to clear the putty? Is there a different technique that would work better? Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Progressively finer sand papers, wetsanding/polishing will work. As a final step, dip it in Future and let dry for 24 hours in a dust-free container. It should be as good as new then.
Good luck.
Start with 400 or 600 grit, unless the damage is slight. Then you might start with 800.
If it was a red bondo-type spotting putty, then rubbing it out with a cotton swab dipped in denatured alcohol will work.
I have several Squadron Tri-grit sanding sticks. One side of the stick has an extra-fine and super-fine part and the other has a polishing side. It works great on clear parts to remove scratches, etc. and then polish so the ‘glass’ is clear again. Then touch up with a little Future.
I took a scratch out of a canopy once with toothpaste and a Dremel set on a low speed. I scratched it trying to drill a hole in it. Got out the Crest, Dremel with a small buffing wheel. Went slow and checked progress often. No more scratch and I didn’t use any Future. Never heard of it back then.
