Williams Bros. closing?

Daniel,

Thank you for the wonderful news of reincarnating Williams Bros Products. I am a 40 year avid participant in RC flying and use Williams Bros pilot busts, wheels, machine guns and various accessory parts. I also build plastic models and finished the C-46 a year or so ago. It is a pretty good kit except for that HORRIBLE, two piece windscreen/canopy. Is there any chance of changing that to a one piece affair? That one change would be a 1,000 % improvement in the kit. I built the kit as a presentation to a retired Air Force friend who flew 116 Hump missions during WW-II.

Great News for Customers of Williams Brothers Model Products!

Changing of the Guard…
In December of 2004, Williams Brothers, Inc. ceased production after a 45 year history as founded by the late, original Brothers Larry and Grainger. The immediate family could not continue the business; so, in March of 2005, all rights and assets required to produce the original products were purchased and moved from Los Osos, CA to Taylor, TX by Brett Industries, Inc. To sustain the Legacy of the original founders, the parent corporation will continue to operate under the Brand name of "Williams Brothers Model Products

Rock on, man! Thanks for giving me the opportunity to buy some of these odd kits!!!

Daniel:

I am building a C-46 right now, and would like to ask for one change. The lower wing center section does not have a good fit to the fuselage contour. I made it fit better on mine by attaching the wing to the fuselage so that the wing fit properly to the fuselage fairings at the wing’s trailing edge, and glued the front of the lower center section to the fuselage securely. Next I made a cut from the center rear of the wing center section and spread it out so it would conform to the cross section shape and side contour of the fuselage. Not very much filler was needed after this change.

I love the product line (and also the R/C stuff, as I am into that too) and I have more than one of almost all of your product line. I must like the C-46, I have 5 of them. I’m really pleased that you are keeping the Williams Brothers company “alive”.

Here’s a picture of your B-10 that I did.

Since I found your web site I’ve been checking it fairly frequently over the last couple months, just waiting on that C-46 to show up.

Great thanks from a modeler on keeping this line alive.

Love the little burning stick man- hilarious!

I have done business with Daniel Brett since he took over the business. He is excellent to deal with. He does have some inventory in stock. I bought a Gee Bee racer from him. I am looking forward to the release of the C-46 he is working on.

Yardbird, Did not mean to jump on the same flaw, but I read the post by Von Hammer before I seen yours and immediately fired off an e-mail about the two piece windshield as you also mentioned. You are right on about this major flaw and source of frustration. It would be nice to see a lot of us modelers that like the Commando kit except for that stupid two piece windshield to inundate him with comments on this flaw. Maybe with luck we can get him to change the windscreen.

Darwin, that is one fine looking BMF Commando. Great job.

Jeaton 01, You are correct about that wing section. Since you brought that up I dug out the instructions from the kit, I save all the instructions from the models I build with the start and finish date, log down the paint mfg and colors used and any problem areas for future reference, and sure enought, I logged the same area as being a problem along with the horrible windscreen. I hope that is corrected if their is a future release. P.S, The B-10 really looks nice.

Daniel,

Thanks for picking up the ball.

Just wish there was a Hamilton Standard prop in the C-46 kit. Built one, have another awaiting build, and will buy another one to keep the ball rolling.

I used to work on C-46’s years back. Never saw a Curtiss prop.

Thanks,

Ken

Ken,

The C-46 that I built had the 4 blade Curtis Electric props and the 3 blade Hamilton Standard included in the kit.

The two choices for props:

Nice looking assemblies, thanks for the pics.

What I was thinking was that the prop hub and domes in the kit are basically the Curtiss Electric prop design and the modeller is instructed to shape the Curtiss dome (actually a motor) to look like the Ham Std dome. Close but no cigar. The prop assembly in the Heller Humbrol 1/72 Douglas DC-6 is fairly close but the wrong prop blades. I hate busting kits for select items. This would be a good after market piece…as well as a respectable windshield assembly.

Cheers,

Ken
