I just recieved my package in the mail today, and you could all imagine my excitement. I ordered Verlinden’s 1/35th scale “Ruined Barn” VRL 106 from internethobbies.com. My excitement turned into frustration as i opened the package, for the building was in perfect shape, but i could not find any of the doors/ windows that were advertised on the box and pictures that I have seen of it. nor were there any of the crossbeams that come out of the roof, or any of the second story floor. I would post pictures if I knew how to,but i am just woundering did i get ripped off, or am i just supposed to be sold the walls. if so, where can I get the doors, and roof beams because i checked and have not been able to find them on internet hobbies.com

You didn’t get ripped off, just hiugh expectations. Verlinden buildings usually don’t come with anything else besides the walls. The other parts have to be made from scratch. You can use balsa wood for the beams, doors, window frames, etc. Sorry, but that is how they come.
Don’t get me started…
I have noticed that Verlinden’s Box Art looks great, but there is a smaller picture located somewhere stating the kit contents…
It’s always a small description and difficult to find. I’ve been bitten by verlinden in the past and now only buy when I can see what is in the box.
Funny thing, the same thing happened to me when I bought the Trakz Tiran 5 conversion. It’s a beautiful turret and well detailed but I think the box art is misleading. In addition to showing the turret and other parts to make a Tiran 5, the picture also shows wheels which aren’t in the box (no instructions either). When I asked Trazk about the lack of wheels, I was told I had to buy them separately and the picture shows what the vehicle “could” look like if I bought the wheels. I wasn’t too happy and have only bought Trakz products from a couple of friends who were selling off some of their kits. Buyer beware, I guess.
Ohh boy, that’s not good to find out, well for us that still have not been disappointed by Verlinden products it is.
I was going to order some of the diorama sets from them, but after reading this post, I have decided not to.
So the kit comes with just walls? [(-D][(-D]
that’s silly, whats the point, If they make us scratch make the rest, might as well make the walls too… That’s a little disappointing to hear.
By the way, what about the Verlinden 1/35 figures and Armor detail sets? Do they acually include what they show? such as the actual parts?

Thanks guys
Beware the Verlinden Panther A zimmerit!!! It is an obscure pattern that I cannot find ANY reference for. As an aside- why does Verlinden number their zimmerit fret BUT INCLUDE NO INSTRUCTIONS??? I mean, seriously, what is the point of numbering anything when they do not have anything to show where the numbers go?? As for the actual PE stuff, it is pretty good. I used their zimmerit on my Elefant and other than no directions, it went on fine and looks very nice.
Exactly what I was thinking BlitzZ, sounds like I’ll be scratching all of my dio stuff rather than buy verlinden. What about Verlinden dio accessories, anyone have thoughts on those (furniture, etc.)?
I am not a fan of Verlinden. Stopped buying their products a few years ago after getting ripped off once to many times.
Regards, Rick
According to usarmymodels.com, Verlinden’s figures are usually oversized, closer to 1/32 than 1/35.
The only thing of his I’ve bought is the old Sherman transmission, which was complete, but with very brittle resin compared to Accurate Armour or Tiger Model Designs.

I’ve bought only three Verlinden products… A bust of General Lee, a M151 update set, and recently an update set for an AH-1W. The quality is good on all of them, but the thing that confuses me most is the instructions. Particularly the AH-1W, there are several parts (PE and resin) that are not included on the istruction, but are included in the kit. I think that’s my only real complaint about them, they are a little confusing. Anyone else have this problem, or am I just not used to the aftermarket stuff yet?
I have a Verlinden Heavy MG Bunker and am totally pleased with it. Likewise with the German ammo and toolbox set, German PE equipment and medals, barbed wire and ammo belts. Verlinden does tend to dress up their box photos quite a bit. The box art for my HMG bunker had all sorts of goodies but only came with the bunker itself.
However, I wont buy Modelkasten again. Stupid Tiger 1 (Early) Tracks and Tiger Spare Tracks came with no instructions and needed lots of fit work.
Happy Modeling

Ill agree theyre box art is a little(sic) misleading. I still use Verlinden, but I also hit up Jaguar, Warrior, Cus Dio… and the rest and comparison shop. The price is not my major issue, but what the kit offers is. I think Verlinden has alot of good products, and holds a good standard, but there is more out there, and alot of it is better.
I can’t comment on Verlinden’s quality, but it does sound like the products are misrepresented on the boxes or in the advertisements.
Concerning Critr Gitr’s unfortunate experience with ModelKasten, I have the Tiger I early tracks, and they came with great instructions and fit (and work) perfectly, as have all ModelKasten products I’ve used. Never had a single problem with any of their products.
Critr Gitr, I’d give MK another shot. Sounds like you ran into an anomaly of some sort!
Basically I think it’s buyer beware, no matter what you’re getting. It’s the same as buying a kit where the box art shows zimmerit on the tank and you have to go AM because it’s not inside the box.
yeah verlinden can be a BIG pain in the butt. and his figs are too big but i like his buildings.
you do have to build alot on them. the one pic up top comes with everything in the little pic in corner.[8][X-)][banghead]
for the money that they charge for these kits they could at least make them complete. i build my own scenery from scraps i find around the house.
Yeah, it took me a while to figure out how to assemble those Modelkasten tracks. Most everyone I have spoken to loves them. On hindsight, when I recieved them from squadron, the tape sealing the box was broken and it looked as though it had recieved a bit of rough handling. As far as the fit problems go…I cant figure that one out. It just didnt come together as nicely as I thought it should.
