Whats the point? I painted with great detail, per the instructions, to find out when the fuselage is glued toghether, the interior is hidden. Expecially the canon with individual rounds painted silver with brass tips. Anyone else experience this.
I guess that it shows the importance of dry-fitting your sub-assemblies so that you can see what will and won’t be visible when it is finally finished. That could go for any model – aircraft or armor. If there is some good interior detail that you want to show off, posing access doors and canopies open is a good option. Otherwise, don’t think of it as needless detailing; at least YOU know it looks good hidden inside there, lol.
I’ve always wondered that. Some people spend so much time with tiny little details on parts that will never be seen again. I guess for the builder, it is the satisfaction of knowing it’s there.
Yeah, Buff Fan…I know what you mean.
I once built a civilian airliner 1/72 DC-3 - and scratchbuilt an entire interior - seats, curtains, galley, overhead luggage storage bins, luggage storage behind the cockpit, radio racks - the lot…and can you really see any of it? No.
What a waste of time.
Sure, I know it’s there - and it looked great before I closed the fuselage halves…you just have to decide if you have the time and can be bothered to put hard work into something that will disappear forever.
There is one consolation - you will probably become a better modeller if you DO this kind of work - cuz then you’ll probably be expanding your skills and “pushing the envelope” of your abilities…not a bad thing, no?
Some models are best left open!! LOL I always find that if I try to skip painting a piece because I think it will be hidden, it somehow comes back to haunt me.
I go all out no matter if its seen or not… I just like building and nothing else matters to me.
I usually do any interior stuff that is included in the kit, whether it will show or not. Occasionally, I get lazy and skip what won’t show. Personal satisfaction is the name of the game.

Why paint the interior of an A-10? The same reason you would paint the interio0r of any model plane…because it is there.[:D]
Woah… you guy’s paint your models? I thought they were supposed to stay natural sprue grey! [(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D]
Whew! I am glad that I am not the only one who does this… [:D] I’d begun to think I was crazy for doing this. The AC-130A in 1/72 that I’m scratchbuilding the interior for… I’m guessing probably over half will never be seen again, but I’ll know it’s there!
then there’s always the option of taking a picture. [:D]
I went nuts on my first 1/48 B-17, which was my fourth model (in this “adult” attempt at modeling that I started last year). Got all 4 Eduard detail sets, canopy masks, Squadron canopies, etc. The whole nine yards.
What’s funny is that the second one I did, which was about my 8th kit (so I did 4 between them) turned out better and had no aftermarket stuff.
Just depends on what you want to acheive, I guess. Personal preferences and what not. Since I hang all my a/c, it’s not worth the cost to me to add anything to the interiors, and I just detail them OOB. However, I pay extra attention to the exteriors, since that’s what’ll be seen more readily.
Do what makes you happy. [:D] If you enjoyed spending the time and detail on the interior and the cannon, then it was worth it…even if you’re the only one who knows it’s there. Besides, then you can say, “You can’t see it from here, but the interior has X and X in it, which took me X hours.”
Happy Modeling! [:D]
Sometimes paint a message or my autograph inside, so when I die and someone drops my planes it will be reveiled. Maybe I should dig something down in the ground and then hide the map inside the fuselage. Sounds like an ideea for a hollywood production!
i like the hidden autograph idea.
regarding the original post, yeah i agree that it’s all a matter of personal preference. paint it if that’s what gives you satisfaction, skip it if you believe your time would be better invested in detailing visible parts of your build. i usually go with the latter. this is also the reason why i dont like building those nice sports car models from tamiya or fujimi that have detailed engines: more than half of the money you spent are on details that can’t be seen once it’s completed.
The choise is yours. Some people feel that if you detail areas that you cant see,at least They know its there and just get more into the modeling exspeariance. I personally PASS on anything not visable to the human eye.
[bow][bow] Genius!! LOL Why didn’t I think of that!!
to be honest, if I can’t see it ever again, it’s not there and I don’t paint it. But if there’s the slightest chance it will be seen, I will paint it with all the care I can.
Also understand, the rocket scientists who write the instructions may have no clue as to what is seen or not seen in the final assembled kit!
