I started the Trumpeter AS-90 yesterday (for the SP arty GB) and was looking over the instructions and parts and noticed something i’ve seen before but never really thought about. There is complete interior detail on the back wall/hatch, but none anywhere else, and I thought ‘Why bother??’, who is going to leave it open to show that small amount of interior detail?. If someone plans to scratchbuild an interior or use AM, then they might as well do that little bit extra or it will be included in the AM set . I just don’t see the point, how 'bout you?

No idea, I guess it’s just manufacturer’s way of helping some advanced styrene nutcases out there in whatever small way they can, while not really spending that much extra to make the parts. The same can be asked about many of the parts from the new Dragon M1A1, with multi-part exhaust vent doors in the back, then separately molded engine cover panel (this time with the mesh piece linked together with the panel, which was traditionally done wrong by italeri and tamiya…). if one isn’t a scratch builder, those features are definitely a why bother as well.
I see it the other way, why not. It does allow you to build an interior or superdetail a little easier. I personally welcome the extra detail. The more detail the better. Same for the awesome Dragon M1A1 AIM. Bring on the details. I think other companies should do the same. I guess that makes me “some advanced styrene nutcase” then.
No idea why. It did get us to think about and discuss their product. Hmmm…
