Why a PARTS BOX is so COOL!!

There IS a reason why we do the things we do…right?

I have some nifty places to store small STUFF and model parts ‘IN CASE’ the part looks like it may work for something in the future?

Do you do this ?

WELL!!

Tonight while looking at my ‘NEXT PROJECT’ I was going over my options for how to replace the thick and not so even corner windows in my Revell 1/35 scale DUNE ORNITHOPTER…I was all geared up to visit the the hobby to pick up some Squadron thermaform canopy stuff and copy the original parts…I have done it before it works pretty good…

BUT!! then I was looking a bit closer and saw that the shape was very ball like…so I dug around and found two halves to a clear Yo Yo from McDoalnolds me thinks?..anyway…well the fit is 100% perfect and well…see for your self!
its alot thinner than the model part and after some polishing its very clear!
Thats one less thing to worry about!

To make things look better I cut the new part oversized so I can place it just behind the kit opening.

Looking good!

Yup, the old spares box at times hold big surprises .

Hey hey, I have that kit sitting in the closet waiting to be built!
Thanks for the good tip!

Yes, the ol’ parts box can be an invaluable ally, to be sure.

Sweet! I have a huge stash of potentialy useful plastic bits and pieces! I also like to save the plastic roll from adding machine paper to use for the cooling gills on 1/72 radial engine A/C. We modelers really do see the world with a different “eye”.

J Hulk…

I have two extra of those clear parts…IF I do not use them…I’ll send them too ya!

thank god for the scrapbox [:D] where should we be without one [:p]

YEP!

I stand by my scrap box…I will defend it with my life!

Long live the SCRAP BOX!..may she never fail…or fall…what ever! [:p]

Yep, I also save the clear plastic from blister cards from toy packages. Makes excellent windows and is easier to cut and work than sheet styrene. Yes i LOVE my parts bins. I love to just ramble through them even when I don’t need a part. It’s fun y if you look at a part a second or thrird time it reveals another use! I have tons of disassemble old toys in there as well.

Woo-hooo, what a nice guy![:D]
Think about it though…the second ya let those babies go, a project might suddenly appear where they’d be perfect!

Well…actually…uh…I…uhm…see…I

DANG IT! I goofed so I had to use the others!! [:(]…Sorry Dude!

But if you look at the yo yo in the pic Its from Hey Arnolds toon and at the local thrift shops in our area you cannfind Boxes FULL of those old Mcdolnalds and Jack in the crack Kidz meal toys.

again SORRY DUDE! [V]

…Now that I think about it I cut my clear parts to fit a larger hole…if you want yours to fit the SAME way the original parts do you can still have a pair!

funny…in the film either they fuged on the interior set of the Ornithopter or those corner windows are really sensor things or collectors for the crafts engines??..cuz you do not see the corner windows in the film at all…in fact you do not see much of anything at all!

BUT!

Testors BURN’T IRON metalizer color works very well for the exterior color!!..pics soon!

No problem, Papa!
Ya better keep 'em…just in case!

I better break out the Dune vid and give it a look.

Wow, I’d like too see that ornithopter done!

Good luck on your model Troy.
