I only barely remember “the Rat Patrol”. Pretty much most of what we watched was what mother wanted to watch, and beings how we had only the one set…we never watched war movies or shows. In fact, I had never even heard of Star Trek until it was long into syndication.
I had some G.I. Joe’s when I was a kid. They were hand-me-downs from other kids and one was wounded in action: he was missing his left hand and the right foot was broken off. I fashioned him a hook and wire held his foot in place. Still, my father was furious because I was playing with f***ing dolls! Dolls that had guns and grenades and knifes and other things that killed… And ‘action figures’ were a lot more butch back then. Not what came out later in a marketing strategy design to sell toys using TV shows and comic books.
As to Vic Morrow, I alway think of his tragic death in “The Twilight Zone”.
