I guess it’s all in the subject line. Especially out of Academy and Airfix.
Hiya,
If your talking 1/72, Hasagawa has a very good one, I’ve built Revell and
Airfix and was never impressed with them. I have never built Academy but
have heard they are top notch.

If 72nd is your poison, then the Academy kits are the most lethal! [;)]
Fade to Black…
Thanks guys, much appreciated.
And I just stuck a pen in my eye for being so stupid as not to say it was in 1:72 - I think I deserve that much…
That’s okay! You’re forgiven. This time… [:p][;)]
Fade to Black…
Boeing made some pretty neat 1/1 scale ones!
I guess you would call them ‘Mixed Media’!
1/72nd B17s? Academy without any doubt.
One more vote for Academy. The B-17B just fell together right out of the box!
I just got through making an academy 1/72 B-17G and it was one of the biggest peices of crap I have ever made. I was shocked because I like academy, they make great models all around, but this one stuck up the world. The list of problems is long and it took a while to fix them as best as I could.
- The control panel decal did not fit the control panel for this kit.
- The bomb rack did not fit into the hole provided for it, I had to redrill new holes for the parts.
- The fuselage did not fit properly, sanding and cutting was the only way to fix it.
- The bombadiers gun window did not fit into the fuselage correctly, again sanding and cutting to fix it slightly.
- The windows throughout the fuselage did not fit properly at all.
- The tail gun housing (the part where the tail guns come out of the fuselage) was not smooth but creased above and below the tail guns.
- The major problems were with the turrets. The top and bottom turrets did not fit into the tracks properly. They both fall into the fuselage at the slightest touch. The same goes for the nose turret.
I don’t know what happened to this model, as I said before I like academy and their product, but this kit was trash from the assembly line.
For Me nobody!..In the Hi-Tech area.Because I’m still mising the rivets from the old Ones!(Revell, Airfix).
