Who makes a good affordable LVTP-7

Because it’s Father’s Day and I’m a father to be, my wife is giving me the go ahead to buy a kit!!! I was thinking about something uncharacteristic, modern armor. My choice would be the LVTP-7 of the late 70’s. I know of Acad’s kit does anyone else make one. Thank’s again for all the help you guys give me.

Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers and fathers-to-be.

I believe the Academy is a knock off of the original Tamiya kit. Tamiya had one with the up-gunned turret, too, IIRC.

As Al states, the Tamiya LVTP7A1 was put out by Tamiya, then a copy released by Academy. Tamiya retooled it into the AAV7A1 with upgunned commander’s weapon station. Trumpeter then released a copy of it and added EEAK armor. The first three are good kits, the Trumpeter one is bad.

I was hoping to build the straight lvtp7. Any suggestions on were to start?

I should have been more clear. When Academy copied the Tamiya kit, they back dated it to an LVTP-7. It will give you the early version and is kit #1344.

I see. It would seem that is the way I should go then. Are there any major defects I should now about?

Not really, other than it being the size of a barn with opening cargo ramp and hatches but no interior.

Thanks Rob. I’ve got a bunch of slides from when my father was in the Navy. He served on an LST so he’s got tons of pictures of LVTP7s and M60’s from ampib exercises. I’d really like to see what I can do with this.

To chime in, albeit late, the Academy kit is the only early version of the P7 I’ve come across. Externally very similar, but the you can see the difference in the Troop Commanders hatch height and periscope, as well as the intake and exhaust grills’ location, shapes, and securing down mechanisms, as well as a thiner bow pod with different mounting style and arrangement of headlights.

Thanks guy, seems like what I’m looking for. If I could only get kitlink to work on my computer. It’s $19something there.

Better late than never.[:)]
