White

Anyone have any good tips on spraying white paint, I have tried many brands and can’t seem to fnd a good way to get a good white finish. I am working on 2 F16s an F18 a Tornado all require alot of white.

I am about to try Mr Base White from Gunze I hope this will make a difference.

I have tried many fine coats to a couple of heavy ones, always end up with good colour in the recesses and thin on the raised areas.

I’ve always had good luck when starting off with a “light” grey primer coat. Then I build up the white with more “mist” coats than normal.

Consider using a silver as a primer instead of a grey. The silver will reflect more of the light and will make the white appear whiter.

The best white I’ve used is Floquil Reefer White, an enamel. I’ve found it has excellent coverage; in fact, it easily covered some black preshading I had applied on one build. I get my bottles from www.micromark.com

Try automotive primer. You should be able to find the kind that is for the plastic trim on cars. In the UK it’s called Halfords Plastic Primer and comes in white and red as well as the standard grey but I don’t know what the US equivalent is. Spray into a jar and then use it in your airbrush. The top should stick to this better and not flow off the sharp edges to easily.
