White Freightliner

This will be my first attempt at posting a pic; but I’m gonna try. This is my AMT’s White Freightliner. [View:/themes/fsm/utility/:550:0]

I painted it using Tamiya Paints; Coral Blue for the cab and Metallic Blue for the chassis. I wanted to give it a “custom” look. The interior is detailed in Intermediate Blue and Leather; with flocking on the headliner and a mildly detailed sleeper. I also used brass tubing for the stacks. The decals are also homemade. This is my first attempt that’s not Out of the Box! I found it to be immensely satisfying!

Good job cuchulainn, the custom door signage looks good, but I particularly like the ship on the roof fairing…a nice touch that makes it unique.

I suspect I’m dating myself, but I remember making this kit back in the late 70’s when it was a fairly new release [:O]. It was my first attempt at building a highway tractor…it didn’t turn out near as nice as yours!

Cheers

Thank you for your kind words. Yeah, I went with a Maritime scheme. It’s Hornblower Trucking and even has a mermaid on the rear of the cab. In the sleeper is a “portrait” of the Battle of Trafalgar. I tried mixing a little of my history and literature hobbies into my first favorite hobby!

Nice one!

Now you know how to post photos, could we see more? I also have this truck in stash and look forward to build it. I like the paint scheme you did a lot. We just can’t get enough trucks as nice as yours on these forums, so keep ‘em comin’ and have a nice day

Bashing a junkyard buy myself, the ,shall we say notorious Rubber Duck from the movie Convoy. Bought on e-bay as a basket case. And yes we do love pictures.[Y] One question. Are you using a tripod or something for a steady rest, your pics seem a bit shaky.

No, it was just holding the camera by hand. I’ll try better next time! Amazing that you’re rebuilding the one from Convoy; I love that movie. I’m actually finishing up a Kenworth from Movin’ On! It, too, is a parts box kit. No decals; so I’m building my own but not like the one on the box!

Does anyone offer super-single wheels and tires for tractors and trailers?

Italeri has two sets of rubber tires only, one for trucks, one for trailers, so you have to check this out. Other than that, AITM has some interesting wheels in program, you might want to check their catalog.

Hope it helps, have a nice day

Here’s my Kenworth resurrection! This is AMT’s old Movin On kit. When I got it, the kit had been started. The frame was warped and useless; so I used a spare frame from AMT’s Kenworth T600A. The front frame pieces were different but I used the W900 front suspension and axles and modified the radiator and hood mounts to fit. I added some decals that were a mixture of homemade and from spares and used brass tubing for the smoke stacks. She was painted in Tamiya Metallic Green. The mirrors were from an Amercian LaFrance Pumper parts kit.

You do some outstanding work. These baby’s both look beautiful!

I can honestly say that this is one genre I’ve never delved into; a full-on 18 wheeler. I may have to give it a go one of these days!

Thank you! I dabble in many different topics; but I truly love Big Rigs and Cars from the 1930s; such as Duesenbergs, Packards, and the like! As a matter of fact, I’ll be starting a Duesenberg Roadster really soon!
