So, here’s Emhar’s 1/35 Whippet Mk. A that I built up last year, but then shelved unpainted because of the kit’s horrible tracks. This tank’s tracks are numerous and plain to start with and every bit of detail would improve them, so I got Model Cellar Productions Whippet Track Links at Christmas, made the required mods and glued them on and then painted the thing back in January during the play-offs. They are 2-parts-per link deals and time consuming but well worth it. I have them for my unbuilt Mk V.
There’s actually 3 shades of MM acrylic British Brown Drab (F505032) over a black primer base- normal thinned for AB base shading, lightened with MM sand for modulation highlights and darkened with MM leather (the only non-Tamiya acrylic dark red I have!) for the sponson shadows. It was more noticeable before the heavy washes…I like the overall grimey look thus far. I realized after I pulled the masking tape off for the stripes that I had forgotten the sponson side stripes… oops, but I like it enough not to fix it. I had tried to hairspray chip the stripes, but I couldn’t get the paint to lift like I wanted, so I used a pointed scribe where there was lifting around the details. I haven’t added any toned washes or pigments in case I make a simple base for it in the future.
