on six carriers 441 a/c sat waiting for the call to arms. travelling across the pacific unknown to any but those on board. of these 441 a/c 153 were d3a’s or commonly refered to as “val”. the dive bomber of the japanese navy.
my val has recieved her wings and sits ready to be filled and sanded. well here she is.
Looks great, fightnjoe !
What did you use for the Najkajima Cockpit Color? It looks VERY accurate.
It’s a nice kit, and it looks like you’re having fun ! Keep up the good work !
Looks good Joe. Are you going to do a representative of each type at Pearl? or are you going to do each individual aircraft? Now that would be a heck of a huge project!!
pix, daniel, dj, skii, kevin, mike, tho, swanny, and rick thank you so much for the kind words.
pix the pit color was my own mix. approx 75 % deep yellow, 15% testors brown, 15% testors flat green. i didnt even have a color to reference to. glad it worked.
dj this is the hasegawa 1/48 val. it has the markings for the pearl harbor bird so it was an easy choice.
kevin my goal is to do a complete line of usaac, usn, usmc, and ijn a/c. i have even a scheme for a civilian bird. and yes it would be a huge thing. 441 a/c on just the ijn. about 400 usaac and close to that for usn. usmc are about 60 a/c i believe.
mike sadly that is the same camera. just got lucky that time.
tho this is going together like a dream. no problems at all.
paul, ed, and chris thanks for the kind words. progressed a little yest. the seams are filled and the canopy is masked. now to get the right paint scheme on it.
thad and eric thank you. i am glad you enjoy this one. pearl harbor birds have special meaning to me. i am taking this one slower than some of the others i have done. enjoying the process.
