Which Stug was that?

Naturally, living in the city as I do.I watched the CNN special on the Warsaw uprising. My eye was caught by a photograph of a captured Stug with the main gun offset to one side? It was near a barricade built by the Polish fighters. I have a 1/35th Vac Form barricade sitting around somewhere and a very old set of french resistance fighters made by I can’t remember who.
A diorama might be a nice idea if you can tell me what Stug it was and if it is available from anyone? Thanks in advance.
Jim.

lolok,

Could it have been a Hertzer??? Did it have sloped armor?? If not I don’t have any other guesses…

Later,

Hibrass

Well, apart from the Hetzer, it could have been an early Sturmpanzer IV, or possibly a captured SU-85.

It did indeed have sloping armor and no conventional turret.

did it look like any of these?

Thanks guys, thats the fella. The 38(T) Hertzer. Now you will all tell me that a kit is not available in 1/35th. It usually happens to me. They did also capture a Panther but the Hertzer looked more interesting, especially after they painted Polish Eagles and mottos all over the Glasis plate.

looks like Dragon/DML kits one
1/35 dr6060 Hetzer w/ Pak39 Command Version
not sure if that is the one you are after.
the only other choice i saw was ADV/Azimut.
very expensive.

only one ‘R’ it Hetzer, if you are searching.

Dragons done four Hetzers
an early one
a Late one and a Flame thrower version in the same box
and the comand version
Italeri do the late version too
ive built the Dragon early and its a nice kit

Hey!!!

I was right!!! Where’s my Cookie!!!

Good Luck,

Hibrass

Give the guy a cigar! I’ve built the Italeri kit, it’s okay. The DML one looks better, but comes with the love them or hate them indy tracks. I believe the wheels are incorrect on both kits. I’m hoping Tamiya puts one out someday, especially since they have the two Marders which the Hetzer is based on.

Wait a minute, Eric. Since the Marders were based on the 38t, shouldn’t it be that the Hetzer was based on the 38t, too?? (At least I think that’s what I read somewhere! Maybe I’m up in the night!)

LOL

Just jerking your chain!!

I looked on dragons site but could not find it. Could it be deleted? I’ll have a look at Italeri.

Jim,
the one i saw was on www.greatmodels.com
the reason i said they make one (and not 4 as Jon said)
is because greatmodels only offers one for sale.
the others are either OOP, or just not sold there.
the first seems more likely.

Thanks for the great help guys. I looked on the site and while same body the barrel is much smaller. The CNN one had a gun very like the Jagdpanther but as I said offset to one side of the glasis plate.
It looks like once again I am stuffed.

hey, i actually know the answer 2 this one !
the Hetzer was indeed based on the Czech 38t chassis,
if u need a quick ID, the Hetzer was sloped down the backside at a constant angle
(kinda ‘hatchback’ looking) while the stug & jagdpanther have flat rear deck sections
(more like a pickup truck in profile), not 2 mention different roadwheel arrangements…
& the barrel of the hetzer is offset 2 one side, there mite also b the ‘saukopf’ (sow’s head, because that’s what it looks like) mantlet on ur vehicle…
wow, if i’m rite, i’ve actually learned something in the past year, LOL !
if i’m wrong… never mind…[:o)]

here’s a couple of pix of a hetzer i built awhile back, fujimi 1/76 kit…

frosty[:)]

Sorry guys but Frostygirl gets the 50c cigar. That is exactly the stug as featured on CNN. Now the job of finding one in 1/35th!!!

lolok:
see Captain Caveman’s post. above…
what u r looking 4 is a 1/35 Hetzer, not StuG…
Dragon/DML makes one …
thanx 4 the (virtual) cigar, no smoking 4 me, tho’… [;)]

frosty[:)]
