Which shade of Blue?

I’m ready to put the blue upper camo on my 1/32 Trumpeter F4F-4. I used “Flat Gull Gray” for the lower half, which shade of blue should I use for the upper half. I’m doing as a late '42 Guadalcanal veteran. And is the gray I used acceptable? Thanks.

The shade is called Navy Blue Grey, Testors MM has the color in both Enamel & Acrylic

Do you know the FS number?

The Wilcats were painted in Blue Grey 1 ( FS 35189 ) over Light Grey 602 ( FS 36440 ). ModelMaster Flat Gull Grey is close enough for the lower surfaces. Their Navy Blue Grey is OK, but not a perfect match.

Thanks.
I just double checked and the Flat Gull Gray I used was FS 36440. So the gray is the right shade at least.

The Testors Acryl shade of USN Blue Gray seems to be too much of a light blue. I don’t know if the enamal version is the same, but for my next USN aircraft, I would mix in some Intermediate Blue. I don’t go by Federal Standard numbers but by color photographs. I think these depict better how the paint would fade. Just my opinion.

Bad news, no Blue-Gray at either of the LHS’s. I was thinking about maybe mixing some dark gray in with some Intermediate Blue. Suggestions anyone?

hey GUYS
how about you try to fade the MM’s Blue-Grey by setting it out on a sunny day for about 2 to 3 hours a day so that the model wont warp and the color will look right as for the faded & abused equipment used in the South Pacific back in WWII

I used straight Intermediate Blue, and am happy with it. I will use pastels to light/weather it some.
