Which is the better 1/72 A-10 kit?

Hi guys!

In your opinon, which do you think would be the better A-10 kit out there in 1/72 scale?

  • Academy’s
  • Hobby Boss’s
  • Revell/Monogram, or
  • Tamiya

I guess when I say “better”, I’m speaking in terms of fit/quality of engineering as well as price. The whole “bang for the buck” thing.

Thanks!

Eric

I think the Tamiya kit is a re-box of the Italeri kit (which you didn’t listt). I haven’t built one, but I’ve seen good reviews on the Academy kit.

Regards, Rick

i did hasegawas a-10 1/72 and its not bad at all its better than acadamy’s and italeri’s

Don’t forget the Monogram 1/72 kit, it looks good in the box, haven’t built it yet.

I also did Hasegawa’s 1/72 A10. Nice kit, worst part was the engine nacelle to fuse fit.

I"ve built both the Academy and Hasegawa.

In terms of the model, I think they’re both very good.

The Academy is cheaper (well, in Australia anyway) but I hate their decals - very touchy and always seem to break easily.

Haven’t built any of the others.

I have built 2 Monogram A-10’s and must say aside from the raised panel lines it is still one of the best. I currently have an Academy kit and from the box it looks ok to me. I have read, other than reviews, that the Monogram A-10 has the most accurate pilot figure available and can be used for 1/72 scale size comparisons for cockpit details. Not bad for a 30+ yr old kit!!![2cnts] The molded details are very well done too!!

Simpilot34, I remember building the Monogram A-10 as a kid. I was only 12 at the time so I didn’t really pay attention to accuracy nor fit, but I sure do remember that it came with more bombs than you could shake a stick at!

I’m glad you and others have commented that the old monogram kit is still worth its salt. I’ve been tempted to get the Hobby Boss kit but, if I remember correctly, I don’t think it came with any ordinance. An A-10 with no ordinance? To quote “Catch 22”…“That’s CRAZY!”

I completely forgot that Italeri made an A-10; I just don’t think I’ve heard to much about it. I think I heard it was good but, if I remember correctly, it was also kind of pricey. I could be wrong.

Thanks for the great feedback!

Eric

I’m in the process of building a revel kit. So far the kit seems to fit well and is fairly accurate with loads of weapons. I am using Eduard Big Ed detail kit. I haven’t build any of the others.

It’s the weekend so I think I’m going to hit the LHS on my way home from work today. Woo-hoo! The raised panel lines on the Revellogram kits do not bother me in the least. At the price RM asks, it’s a super good deal. RM, in my opinion, charges what a model kit should cost.

I built the Monogram 1/72 A-10 a number of years ago. Thought it was a good kit. The only negative I can remember was the decals, which I replaced with aftermarket markings.

Mark,

Mind if I ask where you found your decals? I’ve been looking on line recently and I just can’t find any. The few that I can find have all been listed as “sold out”. I found one other set but it was a dry transfer set from Poland.

Thanks!

Eric

Hi Eric,

I usually shop towbobs decals link below. They usually have a good selection. If they are sold out you may want to try Hannants link also below to see if they have anything.
