Which A-10

I am looking get an A-10 and i dont know which one to get. i would like to do it in 1/48 scale which one is a good build??

I think that most would agree that the Monogram is the best by far. Tamiya isn’t that bad, but represents the earlier Warthog. I am sure that more experience Hog people will tell you more.

I think the best 1/48th kit is the Revell/Monogram kit. Panel lines are rasied on the kit so you may not want that. You get lots of bombs and missiles. If you want to make it for the wars these past years you are going to have to update it some. The cockpit is pretty good but you can get a aftermarket to make it look even better. I can not say how it fits since I have yet to build mine yet but I think it should go pretty well. I have seen the Tamiya kit but I think it is even older then the Revell/Monogram kit but dont know how it is. So I would put my money on the Revell/Monogram kit. Hope this helps. Oh and one more thing the Hog is big when done!

My answer to that…is if you want a really good kit to build of the A-10 then none of the available kits in 1/48 qualify…Both the tamiya and the revell, have raised panel lines, the revell has poor fit, and they are outdated with less details…I wanted to build the a-10 too and I put it on the backburner for now…

Good luck,
Doug

I can tell you which NOT to get. I’m working through the Hobbycraft offering and it’s really rough. It has raised & engraved panel lines, lots of gaps that need filling and some of the details range from soft to non-existant. Still, since mine is a “what if” build, it gave me some freedom to change the office around and I tried some minor surgery to position the control surfaces. Now I just have to get back on it and give it a paint job. I’m seriously thinking through a way to put a version of MARPAT digital camo on this one. (I think I’ve been in the sun way to much lately)

Like with any model, if you’re willing to put a lot of time into the bad ones you’ll get a result…with the a-10 as with other offerings, I sometimes think it’s easier to build the real thing than to put together some of these models they expect people to build.

Good luck,
Doug

A great version of the A-10 is long overdue…hasegawa are you listening?

I think this was covered a few weeks ago, and the general consensus was that despite it’s flaws, the Monogram kit was the best available, but be prepared to spend a lot of time rescribing, scratch building & using PE.

Verlinden’s cockpit is good, as is Flightpath’s etch set.

[#ditto] But I used the Legend cockpit with Eduard P/E.

Go Monogram. It’s not up to par with modern toolings, but its still a great kit at a great price.

I for one like the raised detail on the Monogram kit. After a fine sanding, the raised lines stick out and give it a perfect accented look.

Fit on the kit is only OK, some places need filling and sanding.

I would recommend the Revell Monogram. It does some relatively minor problems, but is the best on the market in 1/48. IMHO

[#ditto] I agree. Even after I modified mine “a little” it is a strong looking bird. Don’t forget the nose weight. Those engines are monsters!
