I want to get a 747 SCA with the shuttle on its back. As far as I have found, there are 2 kits in the 1/144 scale. The Revell kit has raised panel lines, the Dragon kit has recessed panel lines. This leans me towards the Dragon kit but the Dragon kits only option is see through panels on the 747 and Shuttle which I don’t like. Has anyone built the Dragon kit and if so are there any problems with just painting over the clear panels? I have never built a Dragon kit, do you have a preference between Revell and Dragon?
I got rid of the Dragon kit when I picked up the Revell kit. I have not built the Revell kit yet, so really can’t say how well it will turn out. However, I plan to sand off the panel lines. It is my view that at that scale, and normal model viewing distance the panels would not be that visible anyway. I plan to do the plane in its older, almost all bare metal finish. I may do a few panels in a slightly different shade to indicate panels. This creates the illusion of a panel line without a raised or scribed line.
Was it the panel issue that you didnt like about the Dragon kit or was it something else? I like the idea of painting panels a slightly differnt color. I will try that. next time
No, it was just the softness of some of the detail.
