how do you weather the raised panel lines on my a/c?
Hi Jinithith,
Have you looked on Swanny’s Web Page? He has some very informative information/demonstrations on Panel Lines! [:)] His link is in his signature on his post.
I usually use the pre-shading technique on raised lines.
Take care,
Frank
his method of weathering raised panel lines are too complicated
(sorry Swanny…)
are there any other ways?
Accenting raised panel lines with a colored pencil has given me pretty good results. A black colored pencil and a straight edge will do the trick. You can vary how dark the line is by how hard you press. I follow this with a light application of Tamiya Smoke along the line.
Here’s how I do it. I got it from the NOV.2001FSM. Basically you use 5 parts water, 2 parts acrylic paint and 3 parts dish washing soap. You must have a gloss surface for this to work. Stir the mixture( don’t shake or you’ll end up with lots of bubbles) and apply it to your panel lines. When it dries, either use a damp cloth or as I do,get some high quality cotton tipped applicators( I find that regular Q tips fuzz out too fast) and wipe away the excess. You’ll have to experiment to get the right ratio for your needs. One pointer is that if there’s not enough soap, it won’t wipe away and the gloss coat is critical. After you finish, add your flat or gloss coat.

um, did I say something bad? was it about Swanny’s method being too complicated?
if it was, I am sincerely sorry but com’mon, I’m a little fledgling in weathering!
wait, I don’t think I fully understand you
(dangit! hate it when that happens!)
you do that for raised panel lines?
My bust.[B)] All I saw was panel lines. Has anyone mentioned drybrushing?
yes, I’m gonna try that, but
i think it will be too " broad" for the wittle panel liens.
Try dry-brushing with a very small brush. To make a small dry-brushing brush, take a small brush (size 0 or smaller) and cut the top, so that the hairs bristle.
Just sand them off & re-scribe! You know you want to [;)] I’m a fledgling & I’ve got all sorts of complicated projects underway, including a re-scribe of TWO 1/48th B-24s, a scratch built cockpit for a 1/32nd Mossie, and a vacformed Wyvern in 1/48th…
I like a challenge! (Mind you, I expect you’ve probably painted yours by now).
I am a new member and this is my first post after a little lurking. I like the resources on the site an have found some very useful info. After reading the above posts I have to ask: Why? Why do panel lines have to be sanded and rescribed, filled with paint, weathered and otherwise made the centerpeice of the model? I always thought that the purpose was to duplicate real life not mock it. In real aircraft you can see but the barest hint of the panels. Well, anyhoo, thats just me and my big mouth. looking forward to a long association eith this site.
[#welcome]!
bgib62, I weather the panel lines because it adds a little more 3Dism to the model.
for me, the panel lines represent some sort of shadow and grime.
I also do it because everybody else does it and thinks its cool![:D]
